Our first new #michelada of 2021 is La Chismosa! Tamarind and citrus make this miche both tart with a slight fruitiness. Garnished with a funny gummy that kind of encapsulates a chisme session over some cold drinks Available starting tomorrow and will be on our regular menu (which we need to update!) Next week’s miche release will be a contest to name it...so get your thinking caps on! Image: @lee.lee.boots

As soon as I saw these colored pencils and coloring books from @entrepreneurscolortoo I knew we needed them in the shop- so refreshing to see something that is me and so many women that are making a mark in the work through their business! And now we are starting to do small events again. I’m excited to share our latest collab with @amigassocialclub - Mujeres Social Hour: color, have an adult drink, snack and connect (at a distance) in our outdoor patio. Tickets for the event are on our website and we have 2 dates (and possibly more) for some fun. $35 included pencils, coloring, adult beverage, and mini-cheese platejoin us! #iwd2021

If you have been to our place, you know that we are known for our #micheladas and after many months and a few delays (seems to be the case these days ) we are thrilled to announce that we will be releasing THREE new miche flavors this month! That will put us at almost 15 different flavors! We will announce them throughout the month and may have a few surprises as well. Until then, stay safe and can’t wait to toast con salud with you ... Hello- My name is Delilah, owner of Alta Baja. On Monday morning almost our entire team was able to receive our first of 2 vaccine shots as food workers are now elegible to receive them. Thank you so much @latinohealthaccess and OC Health. Anyone in food please do this as well, I’ll be posting info in our stories all week. As for our team- we will still be wearing our masks and plan to do so until the end of the year. And the past year has made us all agree that we will be we...aring masks when making, prepping or handling your food FROM HERE ON OUT. We love you, we care about you and we always want to do more to improve not just for our team and community but for you and all you have done for us. Stay safe and we will get through this together Photo @thehottortilla

Started crying when I got the news that our store was selected to receive the #fundlatinafoodjefas grant...I’m still in shock. Thank you to #weallgrowlatina and @elpolloloco and to all of you who nominated us, support us and and continue to help us grow. This time, although it’s filled with uncertainty has also been a time of extreme gratitude. I’m thankful for our team that works here and gives their all, thankful for our amazing customers who continue to support us through the pandemic and always care for us, thankful that we have this place that is safe and continues to serve our community.

Because this holiday season is going to be different for most of us, we still wanted to celebrate the season with these series of #calavera decorating workshops with @ketomexicanrecipes for this month. Decorate a sugar skull, sugar cookies and drinks/snacks from us. Instruction and all supplies included in the outdoors! And always COVID safe (read our guidelines on the website for the event). Want to do this at home? We got you! We also have kits to pick up in 2 weeks to enjo...y at home. These kits are great for all ages and are a great way to have a meaningful (and delicious!) activity if you are not doing #trickortreat this year or to understand more about #diadelosmuertos All details and dates at altabajamarket.com , just click shop on the left! this image from @lee.lee.boots

Up in the shop: plant-based cheese platter! We have tried to do this for a while and as most things these days, it’s taken a minute (or more ). Platters can feed 4-6 easily and come with: house turmeric-almond cheese, seasonal pesto, seasonal house spread, pecan butter & preserves (not seen here) AND fruits, nuts, pickles and veggies + 2 @breadartisanbakery baguettes. Perfect for picnics, celebrations (small!), road trips, game days or... Events like our virtual wine ta...sting happening this Saturday on #zoom! Looks like we are having a great group and the hot weekend! There is still time to join, just come in and buy one of the wines we are covering and we will do the rest. This will be a great time to sit outside and sip on some chilled wines with friends while snacking on one of these. Salud! ( @lee.lee.boots )

Our newsletter a few weeks ago addressed the way our store has been handling safety measures regarding COVID. And I guess I could make a list here but I figured that maybe we should do something different: We want to open ourselves up to have a conversation. If there is anything you’d like to discuss, if you have questions about our safety practices or the measures we’ve put in place we invite you to talk to us. We invite you to come in and see what we’re doing. If you have any recommendations, talk to us. If you just want to talk, we’re here. We can get through this together. #unidossomosmásfuertes

Trying to find the light in darkness, happiness in times of sadness, and how this little place can figure out a way. We have been spending the past couple of weeks working on something that we have been wanting to have for a long time...a patio. It took a pandemic to get us outdoor seating!!! Starting this weekend, you can have an adult beverage out there too (with food of course). We are starting with decorations, but we hope to bring you a little smile and place to sit in the sun. We also would love your input on a paint color selection for one of the projects! Head over to our stories and help us figure it out!

Our market has been closed one day only since the shut down and we have worn masks this entire time. We wear masks while cooking and prepping food, masks when we leave the store to go into our storage basement, masks when it is not even opening hours. I don't take off my mask until I get home. Yeah it sucks, it's not comfortable, you can't be heard, I have to yell for someone to hear me, I can't see more of your beautiful face that tells me who you are, the moisture is gross ...and the list goes on.... But I wear it, and I will continue to wear it until this mess is over because I care about you. Everyone that works here cares about you, and not just you but your family--the people in your life that we haven't even met. So care about us too, stop complaining, this isn't political- it's care. These are posters created by the lovely @alittlesincerity and they are FREE for any business owner, gallery owner, anyone who wants to put this up in their window. Just come in (with a mask) and ask. We might run out, but we will print more. You can also download all posters for $5 and print them yourself! Until I see your face again... @ Alta Baja Market

Our first newsletter in over a month just came out and I thought it was important to post here as well. *** Although our last newsletter talked about becoming more regular with news to you about our storeit soon became irrelevant to share new developments here. The murder of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and too many others on top of the injustice and racism that STILL exists in our society took precedence. ... I felt that this was a time for our business to give space. Space for the BLM movement, Black leaders and those taking action to promote change and education. And during this time, we have still been open and running, trying to navigate safety through this pandemic. Although we have taken a step back from our digital platforms this past month, know that we have been having conversations: talking to our team at the store, talking to customers, talking to friends and family on the phone and personal actions to make change. I know I have talked to some of you reading this newsletter, many with tears in my eyes and pain/frustration/sorrow in my voice. We’ve taken this time to reflect, listen and understand the anger and think of ways of how we as a business can do better, this small shop in downtown Santa Ana. DO BETTER because we always can do better. I am not the type of person who posts a quote, promotes my accomplishments or the things I have doneI just DO silently. I have always been a person of action, not words. I believe in making changes through action and work slow and steady. That is how I started Alta Baja Market; I wanted to give a voice to the border in a market To give a voice to small businesses and makers that need to shine, and provide my immediate community with a place of comfort, acceptance, safety and joy in the service from us and in products from people who are an important part of the fabric of this world.
