Alpenglow Expeditions 07.04.2021

Maybe it’s being surrounded by 14,000’ peaks, or maybe it’s the friends we share the summits with, but something about spring missions to the High Sierra is particularly magical. #climbskitrek #adventuredoneright

Alpenglow Expeditions 01.04.2021

We got to ski with our friends from @arcadebelts today in Nat Geo Bowl. Conditions were all-time thanks to 30+ of new snow this week. Party wave #climbskitrek #adventuredoneright

Thanks for following along with our #womenshistorymonth celebration. We are wrapping up this series today, but don’t worry because we’re still working with a team of badass female skiers/climbers/mountaineers, so we’re going to share this kind of content indefinitely. It’s been really fun giving a round of high-fives to these fantastic athletes all week. Signing off with a great big cheers to all the strong ladies out there exploring the mountains! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next @carla.perez.ec @emilyaharrington @myshellparker @carolinegleich @roxymtngirl @lydiabradey @mssydpaez @aliagee @ehay9 @tailergray @lyntalbott @paulinadao #climbskitrek #adventuredoneright

Last Fall, @emilyaharrington achieved a lifelong dream, becoming the first women to free climb El Capitan’s Golden Gate route in a 24-hour period. There’s only a short list of climbers who have accomplished this feat, including @tommycaldwell and @alexhonnold. After years of #goldengateinaday attempts, many of which left her bloody and battered, Emily succeeded on November 4, 2020, pulling over the final lip at 10:30pm. We love this sentiment she shared after the climb, Imp...ossible dreams challenge us to rise above who we are now to see if we can become better versions of ourselves. March is #womenshistorymonth. All week we’re posting about our fantastic team of female guides, staff, and clients to celebrate the achievements they have made in skiing, climbing, and mountaineering. #climbskitrek #adventuredoneright : @jonglassberg @louderthan11

Celebrating ski mountaineer @carolinegleich today. In 2018 she climbed and skied Cho Oyu with our team and then returned to the Himalaya in 2019 to summit Everest with us. On any big mountain expedition, it’s a battle just to exist at altitude, let alone to get to the summit. It was a major setback for Caroline’s Cho Oyu attempt when she developed HAPE and had to descend to lower elevation. Showing incredible resilience, Caroline was able to recover in base camp and make a s...econd attempt at Cho Oyu. All of us on the sidelines cheered as she dug deep and succeeded. Not only did she summit, not only did she make a ski descent, but she ALSO proposed to her now husband @rob.lea at the top. I mean, talk about girlpower ! Cheers to Caroline’s #CrushIt4Climate challenge to climb up/ski down 29,032’, the height of Everest today. March is #womenshistorymonth. All week we’re posting about our fantastic team of female guides, staff, and clients to celebrate the achievements they have made in skiing, climbing, and mountaineering. #climbskitrek #adventuredoneright #internationalwomensday

Today, we want to send some love to all the women who are just getting started on their mountain journey. @paulinadao recently completed our Women’s Backcountry 1.0 & 2.0 Clinic. This winter season, I decided that I wanted to get into splitboarding. The only problem is splitboarding is not an accessible sport. You can’t just go out and do it I left feeling incredibly stoked and empowered to get out there. Our guides were incredibly patient and kind with their instruction. ...I never felt like I was going to be left behind or forgotten or embarrassed I’m so grateful to my guides,@tailergray and@mssydpaez, for making something inaccessible feel a little more attainable. Sometimes getting started on your big mountain dreams can feel out of reach. We are so excited to see our women’s backcountry program growing and it’s been amazing to hang out with such a fantastic crew of female backcountry enthusiasts. Cheers to all the ladies out there who learned to backcountry ski and ride this season Happy #womenshistorymonth! Our theme this week is all about celebrating women’s achievements in skiing, climbing, and mountaineering. #climbskitrek #adventuredoneright

The last time Adrian guided Cotopaxi was in November 2018 and this crew of crushers was along for the ride @emilyaharrington @myshellparker. After the hike up Fuya Fuya, our Ecuador Climbing School team went back down to Otavalo for some local cuisine and caught a glimpse of the city’s famous textile market. Tonight the team is lodging in style at the 18th century Hosteria Hacienda Pinsaqui, a real treat before they head up to the Refugio at the base of Cayambe’s glacier.

Besides for summit day, day 4 of the Ecuador Climbing School is hands down our favorite day of the expedition. Today our team left Quito and headed to Fuya Fuya (4,263m/13,986ft). This is the last acclimatization hike before they head into glaciated terrain, and it’s a beautiful one! Fuya Fuya is a craggy summit towering above a gorgeous lake, it’s actually the filled-in crater of an ancient stratovolcano known as Mojanda.

When we were stuck walking inclines on the treadmill during quarantine, these were the scenes we kept in our heads. But there’s good news, we’re planning on going IRL to Peru in June 2021 : Huayhuash Trek in 2018 by @christianpondella. @adrianballinger feeling small amongst the behemoths of the Peruvian Andes. #climbskitrek #adventuredoneright

Two teams in Ecuador are off to a great start! Our team of skiers is lead by @gaspar.navarrete.gangotena and our team of climbers is led by @solitude66. All climbers and skiers arrived in Quito over the weekend and both teams are seeing the city and doing some acclimatization hikes before they head to the mountains to climb their first objective- Cayambe. Jaime’s crew checked out the Basílica del Voto Nacional and climbed Rucu Pichincha (4,784m/15,696 ft).... Gaspar’s team climbed Guagua Pichincha (4,784m/15,696’) and Padre Encantado outside the village of Lloa to continue acclimatizing. : @mtniain Soon both teams will be heading into the mountains to start practicing technical skills on Cayambe’s glacier. #climbskitrek #adventuredoneright

Today we are beyond excited to welcome climbers back to our international programs for thefirst time in almost a year. After an 8-month shutdown of our entire international program, we are officially operating again in Ecuador! The Ecuador Climbing School is slated to run for two weeks and our team is planning to climb Cayambe, Cotopaxi, and then Chimborazo. There’s also a crew of skiers who will be climbing the same peaks as the climbing school but making a ski descent. Our skiers are arriving in Ecuador today, while the rest of the climbing school arrives tomorrow. Yahoo #climbskitrek #adventuredoneright : @solitude66

While a lot of our international expeditions will be able to restart in the near term, it looks like Aconcagua will remain closed for the season. For those looking for an alternative, Ojos del Salado is a great intermediate peak to gain altitude experience above 6000m while improving efficiency in building camps, and generally finding comfort existing at altitude. #climbskitrek #adventuredoneright
