https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIjlS4NrpdA Dear CSULB International Students, You have heard from President Conoley that there will be alternative instruction beginning on March 18th. Even though the risk of COVID-19 spread here is low, the campus is being proactive to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. We would like to provide additional important information regarding this announcement and how it relates to you as an international student at CSULB.... What is alternative instruction? Alternative instruction could include methods such as distance learning, online, less frequent meetings, alternate locations, etc. However, it does not automatically mean that all classes will be entirely online. You must follow your professor’s course instructions and requirements. Will this alternative instruction affect my visa status? You can be assured that alternative instruction will NOT affect your F-1 or J-1 status. The SEVP in the Department of Homeland Security has provided flexibility for international students to maintain status in the midst of campus adjustments due to COVID-19. However, all of the immigration rules still apply. Undergraduate students must maintain a minimum 12 units and graduate students must maintain a minimum of 8 units. If a course is originally designated as an online course, remember that only 3 units will be counted toward F-1 status. Should I travel for spring break? New travel bans have come out during the COVID-19 developments. As spring break is coming up, we understand that you may have had some travel plans. Due to the current health and immigration climate, we strongly advise against any non-essential travel. Please review the CDC website before finalizing your plans during this time. https://www.cdc.gov//2019-ncov/community/student-foreign-t If your university or family is urging you to return to your home country, please consult with an advisor to discuss the effects on your visa status, enrollment at the university and class credits. You must also speak with your professor about permission to complete the course outside the United States. Please contact the ALI office for questions.
