We thank all our team members and leadership for providing high quality, safe health care to our community. This Thanksgiving, our entire team at Alhambra Hospital Medical Center is extremely grateful for the outpouring of support our hospital has received during the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, the virus continues to be widespread in our communities and we are asking for your help. For the safety and the safety of our community, our recommendation is to stay home this Thanksgiving. We ask this as an extension of your usual medical care and it reflects... our commitment to your health. Thanksgiving is always a day to express gratitude for our blessings. We want you to be able to enjoy many years of good health. While we all would like to celebrate with family and friends, this year, we need to be extremely cautious and stay away from those outside our immediate household. This year, with COVID-19 rapidly increasing every day throughout our country, we need a different holiday plan. Consider seeing family and friends over video feeds (i.e., Zoom or FaceTime) or similar technology. If you must see people in person, we recommend being outdoors, distanced by at least 6 feet, masked at all times, and not eating together. If you remove your mask or others remove theirs, it puts you at very high risk for disease transmission. With numbers increasing throughout California and our surrounding communities, people choosing to travel during the holiday, including students returning from college, even with routine testing, sharing a meal with people outside your household is a recipe for unintentional harm. You may find this link from the CDC helpful. Again, thank you to the patients and families who put their trust and life in our hands. On behalf of your entire medical team at Alhambra Hospital Medical Center, we wish you a blessed and safe Thanksgiving holiday.

The open letter from the American Medical Association, American Hospital Association and the American Nurses Association: An open letter on COVID-19 and holiday gatherings to the American public: With Thanksgiving and the holiday season fast approaching and a deadly COVID-19 pandemic surging, we the physicians, nurses, hospital and health system leaders and public health professionals on the front lines of this pandemic strongly urge everyone throughout our country to ce...lebrate responsibly, in a scaled-back fashion that limits the virus’s spread, to help reduce the risk of infecting friends, family and others you love. Throughout the pandemic, COVID-19 spread has followed a similar pattern around holidays and mass gatherings. Positive cases spiked after Memorial Day, after the Fourth of July, after Labor Day, and now two weeks after Halloween. The record-shattering surge underway is resulting in uncontrolled community spread and infection that has already overburdened health systems in some areas and will ultimately consume capacity of our health care system and may reduce the availability of care in many places in our country. In the strongest possible terms, we urge you to celebrate responsibly. We are all weary and empathize with the desire to celebrate the holidays with family and friends, but given the serious risks, we underscore how important it is to wear masks, maintain physical distancing and wash your hands. Following these science-based, commonsense measures is the best way to prevent our health care systems and dedicated health care professionals from being overwhelmed by critically ill patients. We must protect the doctors, nurses and other caregivers who have tirelessly battled this virus for months. You can do your part to ensure they can continue to care for you and your loved ones. We will get through this pandemic, but the only way out is to follow the science and adhere to the public health steps we know work.
