This June 1st post was supposed to be one of joy and pride, but instead I am filled with sadness in posting it. I was going to run a Pride promo, for LGBTQ+ individuals to come to therapy at a discounted price. But after some reflection due to the current climate of what is happening in our communities, I would like to offer that to everyone. @traumaresourceinstitute states that trauma is about perception. I cannot say that person 1’s trauma is more intense than person 2. Bu...t what I can say, is that cumulative trauma, vicarious trauma, big Trauma, little trauma; it is all about how we perceive it and how the body reacts to it. So for June, if you live in California, please reach out. It’s not about having to tell your story, but more about reconnecting your body and mind, and beginning to regain hope in ourselves. As a therapist, we work quietly and behind the scenes. But know that we are here and your voice is heard. Art credit @ageofaquaria #pride #blacklivesmatter #lmft #uplandtherapist

Diesel’s quest and coping skill tip of the day; get some sunshine! Southern Californians are solar powered, and the sun is finally out! Diesel loves sun bathing and soaking in the rays. It is recommended to get 10-15 minutes of sunshine (after that, don’t forget your sunscreen!). Sit outside, go for a walk if you can, or just open some blinds. Be safe! Happy sun soaking! #lmft #questcounseling #uplandtherapist #copingskills #vitaminD #quarentine

Diesel wanted to share another coping skills tip this morning. If you are playing video games during your shelter and stay, try putting on headphones today. If you are playing Animal Crossing New Horizon, like Diesel, notice the different sounds around the island. Did you know when it rains the roofs make the sound that corresponds with their materials?! Being present in the activity helps us recharge faster and more efficiently. Happy gaming and listening! #questcounesling #uplandtherapist #quarentine #copingskills #lmft

A wild Quest giver appears! Diesel will be my guest Quest giver this week. He is going to remind you of different coping skills and maybe some different spins on classics throughout the week! We went on a sensory walk this morning. Finding 5 things we can see, hear, touch, or smell. Take time to notice surroundings, weather, colors, or details you didn’t notice on your route before! Make sure you are safe and follow the guidelines of your city/county. ... Happy walking! #questcounseling #copingskills #quarentine #uplandtherapist #lmft

Weekly quest time! This week is about getting organized and building habits. Time to separate your gear from your potions and crafting supplies. . . Getting into good habits and organizing not only about our physical space, but getting our technology, mental, and emotional space organized as well will help in these weird times. There are two apps I would like to introduce you to. The first is my personal favorite, Habitica. It makes your to-do list into a game. And guess what...!? There are quests! It gives you points and XP when you complete your to do or when you begin building a new habit. The second is Microsoft to do. You can schedule when to do’s are due, make recurring lists, share them with your partner or family member to tackle together. . . . Try these two tools out this week, they are free also! Happy organizing and questing! https://apps.apple.com//habitica-gamified-task/id994882113 #habitica #organized #questcounswling #lmft #uplandtherapist @ Amber Legault, LMFT Quest Counseling

It is okay to be anxious in a time of unknown and uncertainty. One of the ways we can work through this unknown is by regaining sight of what we have control over. Today is a gift, what can we do with today? Therapy can be a great way to help regain that sight, and begin working on core foundational pieces of ourselves so we can come out of this the best version of us. What can you do right now? Reach out, schedule a consultation over the phone, let us see how we can navigate through this together! Check out my website for more details regarding consultations and scheduling.
