#Alameda_Firefighters stand in solidarity with Oakland Firefighters Local 55. We do not support the potential 15% service reduction to Oakland Fire Department. We hope that the City of Oakland - Local Government will not go forward with these proposed cuts. If Alameda Fire Department should need help, the reduction to #Oakland_Fire could cause a delay in mutual aid, or no mutual aid from Oakland.

@alamedafirefighters689 do not support @oakland with the possible 15% reduction in service to the @oaklandfireca. #Alameda_Firefighters stand in solidarity with @oaklandfirefighters in hopes a solution is achieved, and a reduction in service does not occur! This potential decision could affect #alameda if your @alamedacityfire department needs help. The reduction to #oaklandfire could cause a delay in help, or not come from #oakland at all. ... #alameda94501 #alameda94502 #islandcity #islandinthebay #alameda @alamedafirefighters689 @alamedacityfire @loveourisland @bayareafirefighter @califirefighters @californiafirefighter

What do say to someone when the dedicate their entire life to something? Sometimes thank you just isn’t enough. Yesterday December 19 2020, the Alameda Fire Department had the Senior Man on shift retire. Hired December 17th, 1984, Robert Bob Hales followed in the footsteps of his father, Alameda Fire Apparatus Operator John, Big-John Hales. ... Prior to joining the Alameda Fire Department, Bob worked at the Fairview Fire District in Hayward Ca, and also worked for Cal-Fire (CDF in his day), in the Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit. In total, Bob had over 43 years of firefighting experience. Bob has been married to his wife Celeste, for 34 years. They have three sons, Henry, Sam, & John. All three sons are Firefighters. Bob & Celeste are also the proud Grandparents of three grandchildren. Bob and Family, thank you for your life long dedication to community of Alameda, the department, and to Local 689. We hope you have a long happy, and healthy retirement. Congratulations Bob, and congratulations to the entire Hales Family! #alameda94501 #alameda94502 #islandcity #islandinthebay #alameda Alameda Fire Department City of Alameda - Local Government Bay Area Firefighter See more

Alameda Firefighters Shared Season of Sacrifice and Gratitude, forego 2021 contract negotiations and raise- **Press Release** Alameda, CA In what he cited as a shared season of sacrifice and gratitude, Alameda Firefighters President Brandon Baley announced that Local 689, the organization representing local First Responders, had taken the initiative with the City of Alameda to assist in maintaining financial stability and core essential services as the Island and C...ounty continue to battle COVID. I am so proud of the extraordinary efforts of our Firefighters, all of whom have been working the front lines of Covid-19 since Day One under devastating health and safety conditions. Besides a few of our members contracting COVID, many other challenges our team faced included working short- staffed shifts and being deployed to fight large-scale wildfires in other parts of California, said Baley. We must continue saving lives and maintaining community health. Part of maintaining community health is protecting the City’s financial health while working families, business owners and residents are struggling. That is why our Local decided to forego contract negotiations and a scheduled raise in 2021. We are all working together to keep our community safe, and the City budget stable. Said Alameda City Council Member John Knox White, The Alameda Firefighters stepped up to help in the city’s time of need. I’m appreciative of their efforts and I am grateful for the excellent service that they provide. Brandon Baley was elected President of Alameda Firefighters at the end of November and has been an Alameda Firefighter for a decade. This December, Alameda Firefighters Local 689 will continue its popular Toys for Tots Program which has provided joy to hundreds of needy Alameda children during the island’s holiday season. In keeping with COVID times, this year’s program can be supported online to underwrite purchasing as many toys as possible for children. ## City of Alameda - Local Government https://charity.gofundme.com//camp/alamedafirefighterstoys

Today is Giving Tuesday, and while COVID-19 prevents us from donating toys to Alameda's children and youth who are in need, we can donate money that will be used to buy gift cards for 1500 young people here on our island. We are far from our goal to provide gift cards to everyone in need. Please donate what you can: https://charity.gofundme.com//camp/alamedafirefighterstoys #givingtuesday #loveourisland

This Halloween, the @Iaff1918 Categorizes traditional Trick-or-Treating as a possible high risk for Covid 19. If you are choosing to take part, @Alamedafirefighters689 offer these safety tips to help keep trick-or-treaters safe this Halloween: Stay visible bring flashlights, glow sticks and reflective goodie bags, and add reflective tape to costumes.... Stay on the sidewalk and off the road when going house to house. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic and as far to the side as possible. Cross at street corners using traffic signals or use well-lit, marked crosswalks and never cross the road between parked cars. Don’t assume the right-of-way. Motorists may have trouble seeing trick-or-treaters. Children under 12 should trick-or-treat with and cross streets with an adult. Alameda Firefighters wish you a Happy and Safe Halloween. But don’t forget, Daylight-Savings is also tonight. Make sure to check those Smoke Detectors, and replace your batteries! #alameda94501 #alameda94502 #islandcity #islandinthebay #alameda @alameda_firefighters @alamedacityfire @loveourisland @bayareafirefighter @califirefighters @californiafirefighter See more

Please stay informed. Just because Alameda is not surrounded by large amounts of dry vegetation does not mean a large fire could not occur. High winds lead to high fire danger, regardless of the fuel.

Leadership in Action - #ThrowBackThursday with Alameda City Councilmember Malia Vella https://www.facebook.com/TeamstersLocal315/posts/1332654123511536 Three years ago, most of our lives were affected by the Tubbs Fire. The greatest amount of loss was shouldered by the residents of the City of Santa Rosa; the most populous city in California north of San Francisco. No one anticipated the fire would cross over Highway 101, but it did cross the six-lane freeway from East to Wes...t, forcing the closure of a large and crucial stretch of highway. Immediately, the City of Alameda came together under the rallying of John-Michael Kyono, The Local, and Malia Vella. As only a true leader can accomplish, Malia Vella was able to harness all of the overwhelming generosity of the residents of the City of Alameda, both evident at The Local and even more so at Maya Lin Elementary School. The then Vice-Mayor Vella quickly realized that this level of generosity posed a clear operations and logistics challenge. Councilmember Vella just so happened to be on a panel in her professional life with the Teamsters and UPS at the time. She did not hesitate to ask for the assistance of Tim Fish from UPS and the Santa Rosa Teamsters, effortlessly overlapping people from her professional and civic roles. Not only did she make the ask for a large big rig able to transport the supplies, but she also drove to Santa Rosa behind the UPS rig. Once in Santa Rosa, Malia Vella coordinated the handoff to the Teamsters and remained there to oversee distribution of the supplies. Councilmember Vella and this huge delivery of supplies were greatly appreciated by the residents of Santa Rosa. The Teamsters and Councilmember Vella announced to all residents of Santa Rosa that supplies were available at the Teamsters Union Hall. The Teamsters stepped up, filling 24/7 shifts to ensure distribution and security of the supplies. Malia Vella orchestrated the logistics seamlessly, knowing who to ask and what asks to make. Her actions perfectly aligned for a truly successful connection between our City of Alameda and our fellow Californians in Santa Rosa. This is true leadership in motion. We are honored to support City Councilmember Malia Vella as she seeks re-election. Malia Vella 2020. FPPC # 890076
