We are all so close to homelessness and don’t even realize it. All it takes is one unexpected bill, one fender bender, one lay-off, one house fire, etc.
From the archives! Tag yourself if you see yourself. We are recommitting to being more active in 2020

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! Council installs 30 metal posts to stop a homeless guy from sleeping here, but he rose above it!
Do you know any stylists willing to work with us on doing something similar here in San Diego?
Found a dead man today... Lying half out a trash strewn van I've seen many times before parked on the bridge above the 94 and 30th Street. I walked passed, saw ...him lying under some clothes, legs hanging out the door no shoes, and shivered from the seemingly unusual San Diego cold on the bridge. Split second thought to check on him then thought not to and kept walking. I didn't make it more than 100yrds before I felt an all too familiar feeling. My gut also reminded me that we live in a world where people walk by just like I did and not bother. So, I turned around. I tried to wake him with noise but the bridge is loud from freeway traffic and the construction company. I stared at his stomach like I did with my mom 9 years ago bringing a sense of deja vu, this time I was more brave, more experienced. I accepted my situation. I moved his leg yet found it as stiff as my mother's when I gave her a last kiss goodbye... emergency response asked me to move him out of the van, I tried but couldn't do it without using extreme force. Ambulance showed up before I had to do something I knew didn't need to happen. He had been gone for a few hours. I wish I knew his name. I hope he felt loved at least at some point in his life. I hope he achieved at least some dreams. I hope he died remembering the best part of his life... I'll never forget him, and I'll always wish him the best. See more

This city has a brilliant solution to ending homelessness. ATTN:
Akhawaty Incorporated has always been an organization powered by our volunteers and our donors. When we first started, we had as few as 2 adults and 3 children who helped to put together packages for homeless families here in San Diego. As time drew on, we attracted many other wonderful people here in San Diego, and across the US. It is with their support that we have been able to host events in San Diego, Atlanta, and Philadelphia.
