Ever seen a Helitorch in action? VCFD deployed a Helitorch to assist with a prescribed burn in San Luis Obispo County. Watch the video to see our aerial ignitio...ns team in action. On Saturday, the VCFD Aerial Ignitions Cadre and Copter 6 supported a mutual aid request from Cal Fire San Luis Obispo for the prescribed #SpoonerBurn near the Diablo Canyon Power Plant. This successful prescribed burn reduces the fire hazard, protects vital infrastructure, restores decadent Bishop pine stands, and reduces the chances of a large wildfire in the Irish Hills. Demoing some new map system features to our crew at Baltimore City Police. Was a pleasure to fly with all the crew... what a challenging and exciting job they have catching bad guys daily and helping the communities.

Check out this recent clip from the Flight Unit - if you look away you might miss it! At the beginning of the video you will see the vehicle fleeing from an at...tempted traffic stop. Units on the ground fell back to allow Eagle to surveil the vehicle. Eventually, the suspect stopped and exited the vehicle at which point the Tactical Flight Deputy (TFD) spotted an object fall from the suspect's waistband that turned out to be a firearm. Thankfully the TFD spotted it and was able to alert approaching deputies to avoid apotentially dangerous situation. Great job, team!

Wednesday, the Ventura County Aviation Unit first tested and demonstrated the ability of Copter 2, one of our county’s three Sikorsky UH-60L Black Hawks helicop...ters, to drop 600 gallons of water from a Bambi Bucket. This is around 2-3x more water than our current Huey Helicopters can drop on a wildfire. Testing and practice will continue as the crews becomes more familiar with the new airship and it’s greater capabilities. See more

Dear Hollywood....

K-9 Taco here for today's #TacoTuesday report. Today is a special day since my tail was on camera! Well, it was for work of course. I'm no celebrity....yet. My ...partner Corporal Aitken and I responded to news of a white male who was loitering and prowling, then fled on foot from patrol units. I located a track from the intersection where he started and then went southbound between houses at 81st Place. I kept searching in the neighborhood, but the flight deputies were a major help. They saw the suspect hiding between houses. Corporal Aitken and I caught him and took him into custody. You can watch all the action in this video.
