On May 13, 2020, The California Water Board has released a Notice of a proposed statewide Suction Dredge Mining General Permit for a 45-day public comment period, a staff-level stakeholders workshop and a public hearing that is schedule for June 17, 2020. The Notice is posted at: https://www.waterboards.ca.gov//npdes/suction_dredge_minin... We have not had a change to digest the proposed permit rules, but on a brief review they seem relatively reasonable. It appears there is a $1,946 application fee (not sure if it is annual). The application will include a description of the site, a map of dredge locations, equipment description, and other general information. The operator will need to conduct monitoring of the activity and submit a report, which seems simple enough. Some river, streams, creeks and lakes are prohibited or have conditions to dredging. More to come I am sure.

This is a great claim on the historically rich North Fork of the Feather River where large gold nuggets are still being found. The river runs strong all year with annual floods bringing in new gold every year.

The Raven is located on one of the most productive gold-bearing rivers in the Northern Sierra. It is not in the headwaters, nor along the middle stretch, but in the lower reaches just above Lake Oroville. Oroville (oro Spanish for gold) got its name is because the Feather River was so rich in gold. As the erosion of the many Tertiary gravels and bedrock lode deposits in the vast Feather River drainage basin proceeded through time, it all flowed through this point on The Ra...ven claim. The Raven placer mining claim is located just above the infamous Big Bend where millions of dollars of gold were recovered. It is located on the last available piece of ground before the Lake Oroville State Recreational Area, which is closed to mining claims. This weeks featured claim is on Rock Creek in Plumas County and is called Glory Creek. This 40 acre claim has excellent two wheel drive access along the side of the creek. There are nice spots to set up camp on the claim and a Forest Service Campground about a half a mile away that accommodates both tents and trailers. The former claimant said he always had success when working it but unfortunately cannot go out anymore.
