From Adoptees For Justice, happening in an hour and a half - As part of Adoptee Remembrance Day, Adoptees for Justice invites adoptees and allies to a virtual Vigil for Adoptees Without Citizenship on Facebook Live on October 30th from 8-9 pm EST. We know too many adoptees in our community who have survived abuse and negligence, who were deported because of the failure of the US government, and who did not survive or are struggling to survive their deportations to countries ...they left as children where they have no support network and limited access to mental healthcare. Too often, their stories, along with the inherent trauma of family separation that precedes adoption, remain unacknowledged or unknown to those outside the adoptee community. Join us for a moment of silence, storytelling, and performances by adoptee artists as we collectively mourn, memorialize, and honor the adoptees who have not survived their adoption, deportation, or struggles with mental health. Add a name (or nickname) of an adoptee to be shown during the Moment of Silence: https://bit.ly/3jngOO1 Together, we will commit to fighting for citizenship and justice for ALL adoptees and ensure that no adoptee is left behind.

Tip: Ensure your child's classroom/daycare has educational toys and books that feature people of color (ideally written or designed by people of color), such as finger puppets, Black History Flashcards, etc. Insist teachers and caregivers to use these items year-round, not just in February for Black History Month. The racial make-up of students in the classroom doesn't matter - kids of every race need to know American history and be exposed to people from different races, rel...igions, and countries. We had lots of different resources in our letter yesterday and want to be sure everyone has access to all of them, so we'll be sharing out individually on this page. We hope that many or all of them are helpful to you and your family as we all take seriously our obligation to work towards a more just and equitable America. From Lisa's letter - "Things are scary right now, for everyone. But the truth is, things have always been scary for families of color, for families who ha...ve to teach their children what it means to grow up and be non-white in America. We have to talk to our children about race. About how to live and be in this world that prioritizes power and privilege and money and so many other things over their right to live and breathe and be. For families of color, this is not negotiable. For white families, it shouldn't be either." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coryt8IZ-DE

Our Commitment to Families & Social Justice - A Letter to our community - I've felt a little paralyzed the last few days. I've needed to take care of my family and I've also felt like my voice as a white woman shouldn't be one that people are hearing or reading. Give space, listen, do something. My son is four years old. Two weeks ago, he saw me get stung by a bee. Now he's afraid of every bee he sees - that it's going to sting him.... This is a normal childhood, summertime worry. It's nice when bee stings are the only fear I have to assuage. But families of color don't have that luxury. There is fear of police killing their father or their uncle. Fear that someone, someday, won't come home, simply because they were living and breathing in their own black skin. *** Read Lisa's Full Letter here: https://conta.cc/2Y1aZNw
