PRESS CONF. MONDAY, SEPT. 25 There have been numerous reports via Mexican citizens in affected areas, Earthquake Relief Effort coordinators, and live streams from witnesses on the ground, stating that relief efforts are being impeded by way of confiscating donations, and/or impeding trucks and citizens from delivering supplies to devastated communities. We ask the Mexican authorities to please collaborate with us to allow the safe transport of all donations to people ...who are suffering in utterly devastated communities. All are invited to attend! Thank you for your continued support!

This morning, I received a phone call from a fellow community member about the devastating news that our friend Raul Gomez was detained by ICE! He crossed my mind the last couple days, since he has been an exemplary community leader and has been our liaison between Food & Water Watch - California and Mixteco/Indigena Community Organizing Project (MICOP) in our fight for environmental justice in Oxnard! For as long as I've known him, he has been coming out to action after acti...on with a smile and ready to make this world a better place. The last message I have from him is "suerte y cuidate", "good luck and take care" from a few days ago. Now, we must make sure he safely returns to our community!!!! "Mr. Gomez’s hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, September 19th at 1pm, at the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) building, 300 N. Los Angeles Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012."#FreeRaulGomez ! Now more than ever, I plea that you call your reps and DEMAND THEY VOTE TO MAKE CALIFORNIA a SANCTUARY STATE #SB54 It might be scary to call your representative, but it is scarier to be forcefully separated from family and locked up under current inhumane conditions inside ice detentions! Raul embodies our indigenous concept of ‘tequio’, which means to give of oneself to one’s community. Mr. Gomez represents indigenous leadership, and is an agent of change particularly around the issues of alcohol abuse, prostate cancer and domestic violence. His arrest is another example of persecution against this continent’s indigenous people. -Executive Director of MICOP SB 54: http://www.latimes.com//la-pol-ca-essential-politics-updat See more

Washington, DC On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, from 2:00-4:00 PM ET, House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA-12), special guest Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcett...i, and House Democrats will hold an immigration forum at the U.S. Capitol to discuss the impact of Trump Administration immigration policies on children and families. The forum will place particular focus on the harm of separating children from their parents, whether those separations occur at the U.S. border or within the United States itself. The forum will be livestreamed at http://www.dems.gov/live and at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEUkBl-Zmcc. During the Trump Administration, there have been vivid and haunting reports of families from across America separated by immigration agents. In Los Angeles, Romulo Avelica-Gonzalez, a father of four, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials earlier this month after dropping off one of his daughters at school. In Houston, Jose Escobar was arrested in Feburary and has been deported to El Salvador, far from his wife and two children. In Indiana, father and restaurant owner Roberto Beristain was detained by ICE in February and is facing deportation to Mexico. In Chicago, mother Francisca Lino was informed this month that she will be deported to Mexico in July. The Trump Administration’s cruel and persistent separation of families cannot be tolerated. Which questions would you like to hear addressed? Tune in to the livestream!
