Going to be another hot day in the Valley. My check list completed for: Cold water - UPS, Mailman, FedEx delivery persons Not all of their vehicles are air con...ditioned and with folks shopping from home, they are making more stops than ever. That cold bottle of water is both a relief and a way to say thank you for your support during this difficult time. Birdbath waters all refilled for the thirsty birds (my bird "bar" name) and feral cat frozen water bowls in their hiding spots. Heat doesn't just impact us, but our pets and wildlife. Although cats evovled from the desert - they can still get dehydrated and dogs left outside too long can get heat stroke. HOT WEATHER ADVICE Stay in an air-conditioned indoor location as much as you can. Check on elderly neighbors. Especially with Covid-19 many people's funds are reduced, you don't have to be elderly - just health impaired - to be suffering right now. If you are afraid to use AC, call your utility company and discuss options for discounts and other programs. Drink plenty of fluids even if you don't feel thirsty. By "fluids" WATER. Not alcoholic beverages which can actually dehydrate you further and not sodas which have tons of sugar and that can make you even thirstier so you get unhealthy calories too. A Soda Stream with slice of lemon, lime, orange or watermelon gives you fizz and flavor without the calories. If you stop sweating - that is a danger sign. If you are keeping your thermostat at 78 degrees but still sweating indoors, you too can suffer an heat event. Don't forget your sunscreen. Living in a sunshine state we are more pron to skin cancer. So spf yourself!! NEVER leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle, especially infants, young children, seniors, people with health issues or animals There are Covid-19 social distancing cooling centers opening - so if it's too hot for you, please take your mask and go there.
