Dear ACCHS Community, The massacre of Asian American women and others in Atlanta last week has affected our community deeply. We recently released a statement intending to address this and are aware of the many ways it fell short. As a majority BIPOC administration we deeply feel the weight of these recent murders, as well as the acceleration of violence against Asian Americans nationwide. ACCHS has always strived to be accessible and inclusive to underserved Oakland populati...ons and to serve Asian and POC communities. We continue to set this intention and work towards doing this better each day. Knowing this is just a step in a long and continuing journey, we would like to create a listening space for this conversation to move forward. We must come together as a community to fight discrimination inside ourselves and out in the world. We will provide a space for this discussion after our all school meeting this Friday as an initial opening conversation and will plan spaces for future and ongoing conversations as well. You are invited to join your fellow students this Friday to share your thoughts on recent and continued violence, on how best we may move forward together as a Chinese Medicine school centered in Chinese culture and community, and on ways we, as healers, may help dismantle the larger systemic and cultural issues faced by our students, communities and others. Senior administration will join to listen, support and work to hear you deeply. Only Senior Administrators will be attending in order to provide more space for students. If students would like to request additional administration be present please let us know. With warmth and respect, ACCHS Senior Administration President Andres Bella Vice President Rongyuan (Roy) Zhao Director of Education Zheng-Jie (Gerry) Kuo Director of Administration Ya-Fei (Julie) Wang

At ACCHS, we have an in house clinic that is open to the public for acupuncture, herbs, and tuina massage. Students in our Masters and Doctorate programs practice together, supervised by experienced Licensed Acupuncturists who specialize in Classical Chinese Medicine. . Masters students complete 960 hours of clinical training through our program. This starts with observer shifts, where you essentially shadow our Professors as they treat patients, asking questions and learnin...g more about how the process works. You then start working in groups of interns, supervised by Licensed Acupuncturists, seeing patients together. In your final year of training you move on to treating patients by yourself, supervised by a Licensed Acupuncturist. . This training prepares you to become a Licensed Practitioner as you incorporate everything you're learning in the program. Our supervisors specialize in Classical Chinese Medicine, focusing on wisdom from the classic texts of Chinese Medicine and how our medicine was originally practiced. . The best part about going to Chinese Medicine school is that you have constant access to experts in the field. Your supervisors are there to answer your questions, oversee your work, and impart their wisdom to you as you go through the program. . Clinic is where you put things together, synthesize what you've learned, and where you become a practitioner. . Our experienced supervisors will help you become the practitioner you want to be. . At ACCHS, we study Classical Chinese Herbalism, which goes back to the roots of Chinese Medicine. . We use formulas of herbs where the various herbs balance out potential side effects of other herbs or accentuate the positive effects of them. This makes formulas much safer and more effective than single herbs. . Using ancient methods for processing the herbs with heat, vinegar, honey, or salt also changes the properties of the plants and makes them more appropriate for the ...condition being treated. . Chinese herbalism often feels like magic, when in fact it is a practice cultivated over thousands of years with significant scientific research backing it up. . Want to experience the magic? . As essential healthcare providers, our students are able to practice acupuncture and Chinese Medicine in person in our clinics right now. . We also have telemedicine available for patients and students who don’t wish to practice in person at this time. . This medicine has always been about adapting to the times, new diseases, and patients’ needs. . We will continue to grow and adapt to our current situation, and teaching our students how to navigate through difficult times as well. . Ready to join us? . Go to acchs.edu (link in bio) See more

Our community at ACCHS celebrates the diversity of our students, faculty, staff and board members. The mission of ACCHS since our founding has centered around connection to our local community. Our school was and remains the most affordable acupuncture school in California as part of our mission to be accessible to that local community. In the words of our President, Andres Bella, Our aim has always been to pursue, through the medium of medical learning, the goal of an ideal... society and civilization, and to make a significant contribution towards the development and prosperity of mankind. . We believe that diversity and cultural humility improve not only our learning environment, but the communities that ACCHS serves and that our students will go on to serve themselves. We aim to create an inclusive school for people of all identities. This includes, but is not limited to sexual orientation, gender identity and presentation, racial identity, nationality, citizenship status, ability, religion, socioeconomic status, and veteran status. . As one of the few acupuncture schools focused in Classical Chinese Medicine, we seek to honor and restore the roots of this medicine as it was meant to be practiced. We honor not only the medicine itself, but also the Chinese culture that it comes from--this is why we are the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences. . ACCHS sits on the territory of Huichin, the ancestral and unceded land of the Chochenyo speaking Ohlone people. We not only honor this history, but also recognize that their descendants, members of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, still live and thrive here today. We recognize that our school and community benefit from the use and occupation of this land and as such place great importance on honoring our connection to this place. . #acupunctureschool #diversity #blm #blacklivesmatter #futureacupuncturist #oakland #oaklandcalifornia See more
