Clemente was the first Latin- Caribbean player inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and was widely known for his charity work. Unfortunately, Clemente died in 1972 while delivering supplies to Nicaragua following a devastating earthquake. After his untimely death, the MLB renamed its annual Commissioner's Award after him to honor his contributions as not just a player, but a humanitarian.
