The confusingly numbered Proposition 13 on the March 3 statewide ballot will waste taxpayer dollars, needlessly increase the state’s debt burden and encourage school districts to issue more debt, raising property tax bills. Voters should reject it.

Editorial: Reject Prop. 13, California’s $15 billion school bond plan Laudable goals, but plan shouldn’t force developer costs onto existing homeowners and push labor union hiring.

Prop. 13 also gives priority to districts that use project labor agreements, which put non-union contractors at a disadvantage in bidding. We think that’s bad policy. We wouldn’t blame voters for saying no for that reason alone.

First, the amounts school districts can borrow nearly doubles; this will inevitably raise property taxes in order to pay back the increased bond debt. Second, they conveniently added a project labor agreement to the bond, making them union only, shutting out 80% of Cali...fornia’s work force. This is discriminatory and will most certainly raise construction costs. Proposition 13 should get a no vote. Mark Kirkes, Turlock
