Staff Spotlight... Susan Judson, Consulting Teacher After three years in Manteca Unified, Ms. Susan Judson decided the grass was greener on the other side of Hwy. 99 and joined Escalon Unified. Her initial assignment was at Dent Elementary where she taught 2nd grade for several years before joining the 3rd grade team at Van Allen Elementary in 2016. Then in 2018, she was selected as a Consulting Teacher for Gateway Academy's growing homeschool program. Since joining the Gate...way staff, she has added her extensive understanding of reading instruction, and in particular, strategies for students with dyslexia. She is Gateway's "go to" person in these areas and staff look to her for support when students are having reading challenges. Thursday evening from 6 to 7 pm families enjoyed a new event, the Van Allen Halloween Car Decorating Contest and Socially Distanced Car Parade. There were three categories: Cutest, Spookiest, and Creative. Ms. Tims, Mrs. Nelson, and Mrs. Evans presided as judges, while Mrs. Shaw and Mrs. Boyd handed treat bags to participants. The Wolfe family provided the mobile sound system. Many thanks to our paraprofessionals, PTC, and Mrs. Hougland for their assistance decorating our parent parking lot.
