I am very excited to share that this was completed today at John W. North’s Charles Leathers Track & Field Complex. I had the pleasure of talking to Coach’s daughter Tori earlier today (JWNHS Class of ‘07) to share these photos with her and now sharing them with you. J.W. North is planning a formal dedication when sports are able to return to play this school year. We will share details when they are finalized. #HuskyPride

Posted @withregram @nhshuskies @rusd_aapac Juneteenth is the nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery. The celebration marks a day in 1865 when enslaved Texans learned they’d be freetwo months after the end of the Civil War and two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Initially a uniquely Texan observance, Juneteenth has now been recognized in some form in every corner of the country. Although the truth... had been hidden from themand they continued to face threats of continued oppression, violence, and deatha year after they learned of their freedom, formerly enslaved people resiliently rallied around that date and made the celebration an annual ritual. Early Juneteenth observances included a search for lost family members and an opportunity to uplift one another as Black people, thriving in the face of hostile environments. In celebrating Juneteenth, we need to recognize the challenges that those who fight injustice have always faced, but the holiday shouldn’t be marked only by the tragedy of enslavement. Indeed, Juneteenth is a jubilant celebration of culture, activism, and the humanity of a people. To help our younger students learn about this holiday, please see PBS Juneteenth: All About the Holidays @ John W. North High School See more

Posted @withregram @jdubfootball Today we celebrate Juneteenth, the ending of slavery in our country. We must never forget this horrible part of our history and we must use it as a reminder of how we can and must be better and treat everyone, especially our African American brothers and sisters, equally! Happy Juneteenth! #juneteenth #equality #bebetter

Two superstar husky alums Mr. Joshua Beverly and Mr. Tim Wilbur who left a lasting impact on our North family. These leaders co-labored with me and other student leaders three years ago to mediate and explicitly address racial tension in the Eastside that has always spilled over into our schools. With NO hesitation, they volunteered to spend a day at University Heights middle school to mentor and speak life to our future huskies. This is the Husky way...love, empathy, courage and having the wisdom/integrity to address root causes. We don’t dehumanize and dismiss, but we love and we overcome.
