UPDATE 9.16.20 We’ve received a number of questions regarding the City softball fields, particularly those at Plaza Park. We are clarifying that open space in the outfields is still available to use for skill development and conditioning, so long as County and State guidelines are followed by users. You can find additional information from the State of California regarding youth sports and outdoor recreation industry guidance on COVID-19 here for youth sports: https://files.c...ovid19.ca.gov//guidance-youth-sports--en.pdf and here for outdoor recreation https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-nee/ Additional restrictions on the infields became necessary as over the past several weeks Plaza Park ballfields have been used for games and tournament play, despite COVID-19 restrictions enacted May 2020. It was reported by concerned citizens and City staff that these games had players and spectators over 200 in attendance. The coaches and organizers of the games were approached by City staff, but they refused to cease their play. Due to their failure to comply with guidelines set to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we were forced to take additional measures and the infields remain closed. If you have additional questions or would like to speak to a staff member, please send us a direct message or email [email protected]. Please consider the air quality prior to participating in any outdoor recreation activities. You can check the air quality status at https://www.valleyair.org/myraan/. ********************************************************************* ORIGINAL POST City of Visalia softball fields remain closed to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Due to the repeated unauthorized use of the softball fields at Plaza Park for game play, concrete barriers have been placed to prevent further use. All open spaces, trails, walking paths, basketball, tennis and pickleball courts remain open for public use during normal park hours from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. On the courts, users are asked to follow the public health guidance of single use play, unless you are with members of your household. When using public spaces, we ask that everyone follow CDC social distancing guidelines. Please remember these additional recommendations: Do not go out in public if you are sick or not feeling well Avoid close contact with anyone that is sick or not feeling well Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow and wash your hands thoroughly after sneezing or coughing Public restrooms may be closed, so plan accordingly Bring your own water, do not use water fountains Pack all trash out Dogs must be on a leash at all times Bring hand sanitizer City of Visalia, CA
