The Grapevine is still open and but we are escorting vehicles in both directions due to snow and ice. Several vehicles are stuck on the local mountain roadways due to snow and ice. Those local roads are currently closed and we hope to have them open some time tomorrow morning. For real time highway information see Caltrans app quickmap.dot.ca.gov
We are seeing below freezing temperatures in the mountain communities. The local roads are already icing over and we are recommending only local residents with chains on the roadways.
We have been conducting traffic breaks intermittently over the summit of the Grapevine due to freezing conditions. Conditions have been changing minute by minute and we expect the storms to continue thoughout the weekend. The Grapevine is open and we do not anticipate a closure any time soon. If you plan on traveling over the Grapevine this weekend, slow down, maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicles around you and avoid abrupt braking and steering movements.

Expect delays on the Grapevine: Northbound I-5 at the east escape ramp, south of Grapevine Road. A truck carrying pineapples caught fire. The #3 and #4 lanes will be closed for a couple of hours. #Grapevine

Eastbound Frazier Mtn Park Road, west of Lebec Road remains closed with a detour routing traffic behind the Flying J truck stop. Westbound is open with intermittent closures for line and pole repair. Earlier today, a collision damaged a power pole resulting in a power outage in the surrounding mountain communities.

The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged stronger and more unified. We feel renewed devotion to the principles of political, economic and religious freedom, the rule of law and respect for human life. We are more determined than ever to live our lives in freedom. Commercial drivers often drive as much as 100,000 miles per year in vehicles that weigh up to 80,000 lbs. They are essential in keeping the nation supplied with food, building materials, safety equipment, vehicles, fuel, etc. The list goes on. If we all (big rigs AND passenger vehicles) drive courteously, follow the rules of the road, and use common sense, we will see less crashes, lane closures, stopped traffic, hazmat spills, roadrage, injuries, fatalities, frustration and delays. Please drive like your life depends on it.
