This image of Jirayr Zorthian's painting "The Shipwreck" was featured in the February 12, 1940 issue of Life Magazine. Life did a story on the excellence of the Yale School of Fine Arts and featured Jirayr as one of the prominent products of that process.
Sargent Jirayr Zorthian during the period he was stationed at Camp Ritchie, Maryland during World War II. While there he completed work on a mural that was commissioned by the camp commander. The Phantasmagoria of Military Intelligence Training illustrated the process of recruiting and training military intelligence officers. Jirayr considered this 157 foot long by 4 foot high mural to be his crowing achievement as a fine artist. He later tried very hard to find the mural. The the exact location of the original is unknown.
