Documentarians of the world rejoice! I'm launching the online Composition Clinic and am offering pre-enrollment at 50% off! It’s going to be a series of video and text lessons covering everything related to composition. It’s a no-fluff, information overflow of all I’ve learned and know (and made up) about composition. In depth. (Basically my in person workshop on steroids. Healthy ones. Like Spirulina and Kombucha.)... As well as a repository (not suppository) for monthly videos centered around composition. Interviews with other photographers, behind the scenes videos, tips and techniques, critiques, and more. It's gonna be legit. It's going to go live in the first half of September but for the next two weeks you can enroll for half the price. Crazy. Do it. Dooooooo it. If you have friends that might be interested please let them know! https://learn.zalmyb.com use code totesredonks Launching price will be $345.67, now just, well whatever half of that is...

Compositions got you down? Feeling like you could use some shaking up in the putting-together-a-photo-that-says-what-you-want-it-to-say department? Well, Zalmy Berkowitz Photography (me) and PantsNotRequired inc (also me), are (is? am?) offering a few online live interactive compositions classes (also known as OLICC) for three different time zones (and I might add another for the Aussies and Chinese and Philippines and Manchurians (it's a real thing!) and whoever else lives i...n that area (sheesh I'm American, give me a break!). Dates are: June 14th (flag day) - PST June 29th (international Pickle day)- EST July 14th (Coffee day) - CEST - This one is in Europe/Israel time! (Yeah, I get you guys don’t have just one timezone, whatevs) Cost will be $234.56 (come as a couple for only $400, love triangles are respected but won’t get any extra discounts, sorry, management amiright?) The zoomshop will be recorded, but will not be sold or anything like that, just for the attendees to rehash the glory days. You could check out all the lovely details at http://pantsnotrequired.com and if you have any questions please feel free to ask (not just about this :) ). And yeah, it feels weird posting anything related to me or business now, ridiculous kids refuse to go hungry to support their keyboard warrior of a dad. If you know anyone who might be interested please tag them or let them know!

A few photos from one of the most joyous and meaningful weddings I've had a pleasure of attending. Check out the blog for the rest (it's worth it :) ) http://zalmyb.com/blog/shiraandjoshua

Siri: Define Joy Seriously, probably the most joyous wedding I've been to. Just everything about it oozed pure, unadulterated, non-homogenized, unpasteurized, organic, non-GMO, joy. Also so pretty amazing words from Leonard Cohen (which I'm 99% sure you've never seen or read) about what it means to be a Jew, what's the place and purpose of being a Jew, and some other (possibly controversial) ideas about stuff.... Click it, or forever weep.

Father of the bride blesses his daughter as the groom looks on. This is always one of my favorite moments of weddings. It’s when it hits that this is actually happening. I’m getting married! My sibling is getting married. My child. And the subtle encouragement, hand holding, and love of all the bit players is always wonderful to see.... AND composition workshop in New York, June 18th. Be there.

Okay, one more from this wedding before I head back to the dungeons of editing (after heading to the beach of course )

Reading the Kesuba (marriage contract, written in Aramaic so we should all understand it ) under the Chuppah. Also, thank G-d for silent shutters, I don’t think Robert Capa even got this close ... And a massive thank you for clients that let me shoot like a weirdo.

Documentarians of the World! the next round of Workshops are up! Upcoming dates and locations:... Washington DC - February 6th Breckenridge, CO - February 13th Portland, OR - March 11th Seattle, WA - March 14th Berkeley, CA - March 18th Chicago, Il - April 9th for more info http://oncomposition.com On Composition is an intense and intimate one day photography workshop covering everything related to composition. It's a no-fluff, information overflow of all I've learned and know (and made up) about composition. Composition is not just where to put our subjects so all looks good. Composition is to images what grammar is to words. Without it, our stories can be incoherent, aimless, and confusing. It’s what takes a plot and turns it into a story, maybe even poetry. In this workshop we will learn how we see, why we see, what composition is and isn't and why we need it. We'll learn to use all the elements of photography (focal length, aperture, shutter speed, etc.) and the world out there (the things that come together to make a photo) to tell remarkable narratives (actually that's a bit of a stretch. If you have a remarkable narrative, then this workshop will help you express that via the photos you take, the story is up to you :) ). Workshops are limited to 15 seats for a more intimate and conversational workshop, that also means they can fill up quickly, so tarry not! Each seat costs $397.62 If you know anyone who would be interested in this please let them know! woohoo! Peace and love and happy holidays and new years and old years and yummy healthy food!

Aussies! Time is running out (and space is filling up) for the On Composition workshops! On composition is an intense and intimate one day photography workshop covering everything related to composition. It's a no-fluff, information overflow of all I've learned and know (and made up) about composition. Perth - October 11th... Melbourne - October 22nd Brisbane - October 24th Here’s what Marie-Cecile Monforte had to say: I can’t thank you enough for an Awesome workshop today! I have taken a lot of workshops and I’ve often left feeling a bit underwhelmed but I left your workshop overwhelmed (in the best way), super inspired, and generally just excited to practice what I learned! This is the type of in depth, layered instruction that really reaches the core of what we do, and why we do it. And now I cannot wait to see where my images will be in 6 months once I’ve really started to internalize these concepts more. Get on it!! http://oncomposition.com
