In an effort to implement the goals of the 2018 Parks and Recreation Master Plan, The Community Services Department is pursuing grant funding from the Prop 68 Statewide Parks Project to expand Brehm Park to include Tri-Valley Little League and add new features and amenities. The Youth Commission is offering Teen Tech Help for Seniors at the YV Senior Center on alternating Thursdays - Feb 20, Mar 5 & 19, and April 2, 16 & 30 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Youth Commissioners will be present to provide basic tech assistance with phones and other devices. The service is free and no appointment is necessary.

Youth Commissioners presented awards, gave away raffle prizes and visited with 5K Run winner, Mayor Pro-Tem Merl Abel, at the 2020 Healthy Hearts Run and Community Health Walk at Essig Park on February 8th! Great job Commissioners!

Teens Are Invited To Apply For The Town of Yucca Valley Youth Commission. The Youth Commission was established in 1995 to provide for communication between Yucca Valley’s elected officials and the young people of the community. Students in grades 7 through 12 who attend school in Yucca Valley are eligible to serve on the Yucca Valley Youth Commission. Up to twenty commissioners can be appointed each year, with an effort to represent a variety of schools and grades. Previous ...commissioners may be reappointed to serve additional terms. Appointments are made in the fall with Youth Commission members serving throughout the school year. Each year, the commissioners strive to discover creative and effective ways to communicate with the young people of the community, and with local government officials. In recent years, the Youth Commission has produced intergenerational programs, hosted a Teen Parking Lot Party, presented forums to local schools and volunteered at community parades and special events. The Youth Commission meets regularly with Town of Yucca Valley staff members. Activity reports are presented to the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Commission and an annual report is provided to the Town Council. Meetings are at 6:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month; workshops are scheduled as needed. Youth Commission meetings are open to the public. Students may apply to serve on the Youth Commission by completing an application. Applications for the 2019-20 Youth Commission are available at the community center or online at www.yucca-valley.org; they are also available at the school offices of Yucca Valley High School, La Contenta Middle School and Joshua Springs Christian School. Sense-ational Family Fun Day on July 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. features Climbing Wall, Euro-Bungee and More! Spend the day with the Hi-Desert Nature Museum and Recreation Staff on Saturday, July 27th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum and Community Center Complex for a summer Family Fun Day entitled Sense-ational. The theme follows the amazing, hands-on exhibit: Sonic Sensation at the Hi-Desert Nature Museum, where everybody can experiment... with pitch, test their own hearing, make a movie soundtrack, and step into the ever-popular Scream Chamber! The accompanying sense-themed Family Fun Day goes BIG with a giant Euro-Bungee and a 25’ climbing wall! Enjoy a wide variety of sense-ational games and craft activities for all ages as well as face painting, balloon twisters, scavenger hunt, bounce house, slack line, food and much more. This event is FREE and will keep the whole family engaged for hours! The Sonic Sensation interactive exhibit will be on display at through September 7, 2019. This exhibition was developed by the Sciencenter in Ithaca, New York. Come see it! See more
