Did you know that today is #WorldTeachersDay? We are so grateful for our incredible team of YouthBuild Charter School of California educators, who have worked tirelessly during this pandemic to ensure that their students stay engaged and excited about learning, even if it's through a computer screen. We know it hasn't been easy to teach remotely, and folks are anxious to get back in the classroom once it's safe to do so. Many teachers have found themselves working harder and longer hours now than ever before because they want to be sure that no student falls behind during these trying times. Their hard work and dedication tends to go unseen and unappreciated by the rest of the world, so let's do everything we can to lift up and support the teachers in our lives, even if it's just a simple thank you.

Shout out to our Fresno student-corpsmembers at the Fresno EOC LCC who have been helping distribute water to residents who have been impacted by the ongoing Creek Fire.

At YouthBuild Charter School of California, we've seen first-hand just how transformational education can be. Our project-based approach to education, focus on social justice, small class sizes, and dedicated teachers and staff motivate our students to find a new passion for learning, develop as leaders, and give back to their communities. Students at YouthBuild Charter also receive support from teachers and staff to figure out their next steps in life after graduation, whet...her that be college, learning a trade, or finding employment. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, those with a high school diploma earn about $200 more per week (around $10,000 more per year) and have lower unemployment rates than those without a diploma. . If you left high school without earning your diploma, it's not too late to graduate! YouthBuild Charter is here to help you get back on track, finish your credits, earn your diploma, and go onto success in your future endeavors. Our 17 school sites are still enrolling young people ages 16-24. Text 213-741-2600 to find out how you can get started today! . See more

Today is #NationalVoterRegistrationDay! Are you #VoteReady? Visit registertovote.ca.gov to register to vote, check your voter registration status, update your voter registration info, or pre-register to vote (if you're 16-17.) Even if you're pretty sure you've already registered to vote, it can't hurt to double check your voter registration status online to be sure your information is accurate and up-to-date. It only takes 2 minutes, so no excuses! . As a reminder, this year ...in California a vote-by-mail ballot will be mailed to each voter prior to the November 3, 2020 (whether you opted in to vote by mail or not). After Oct. 5, start looking for that ballot to show up in the mail. If you don't see it in a week-to-10 days, contact your registrar's office. Mail-in ballots are counted here as long as they are postmarked on or before Election Day, but we recommend that you mail yours in as soon as you can (ideally before the end of October). And you can always choose to vote in-person at a polling center on November 3rd if you prefer. Whether voting by mail or in-person, just be sure to VOTE! See more

We're excited to be a part of #NationalVoterRegistrationDay this year! For those who don't know, National Voter Registration Day is an effort to strengthen our democracy by registering voters on September 22, 2020. Every year, millions of eligible voters are unable to cast a ballot because of a missed registration deadline, outdated registration information, or other problems with their voter registration. . Are you registered to vote? Or are you unsure of your voter registra...tion status? Did you recently move or change your name? Visit registertovote.ca.gov to register to vote, check your voter registration status, or update your address/name. It only takes 2 minutes to register/verify your information. In California, students ages 16 and 17 can also pre-register to vote using the same link! The deadline in CA to register online to vote is Monday, October 19, 2020. Let's work together to ensure that our staff, students, friends, family, and folks in our communities are #VoteReady! See more

Welcome back to all of our returning students, and a warm welcome to all of our new students! Today is the first day of school for most of our sites (although a few started earlier this month.) We know distance learning is not ideal, but our teachers have been working hard all month to make it as engaging and fun as possible for our young people. . Most of our school sites are still enrolling, so if you know of a young person ages 16-24 who needs to earn their high school diploma, send them our way!
