We are excited to announce our inaugural partnership with @ukuglobal at @iamcollegetrack - Boyle Heights! Previously YMF has offered guitar and music production classes at College Track Boyle Height and Watts, and the students are looking forward to learning ukulele for the first time. Uku has generously donated not only all the instruments for this program, but also supplemental resources for our Teaching Artists. Thank you to Uku for taking the time to learn about our mission and values, and for working with us to create a partnership that is truly collaborative on all fronts. We are thrilled to have finally made it happen! Stay tuned for more as the program gets underway!
We hope you enjoy this snippet of our Teaching Artist Professional Development last fall! Led by UCLArts & Healing Founder and Director Ping Ho (MA, MPH), our TAs had an incredible opportunity to learn some tangible ways to bring Social Emotional Learning into their classrooms. Thank you Ping!
Architect Paul R. Williams designed some of Los Angeles’ most celebrated homes and structures. In an era where architects typically majored in one style, he excelled in every architectural style, making him one of the most renowned architects, not just in Los Angeles, but throughout the world. In addition to serving residents of the Florence Mills Apartments after our upcoming move, YMF is deeply honored to also serve residents of the Paul Williams Apartments and present concerts in the Paul R. Williams Cultural and Historical Family Community Center.
We are so grateful for Jeff Campell and Hungry For Music, and the uplifting and life-changing work they do. In 25 years, they have donated and delivered more than 14,000 instruments to children in 49 states and 30 countries - including YMF! Here’s a recent NPR feature on Jeff and Hungry For Music that aired in October: https://www.npr.org//have-a-musical-instrument-gathering-d

Selected through a national audition from among 35 applicants, Lara Webber was the first woman to lead the YMF Debut Orchestra in its 39-year history up to that point. Ms. Webber continued pushing boundaries in her career, becoming associate conductor of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (South Carolina), music director of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and associate conductor of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. She is currently in her seventh season as the conductor and music director of the Livermore-Amador Symphony.

YMF is proud to welcome Tyra Popovich, our awesome new intern via the @lacountyarts Internship Program! Tyra is a senior at Pitzer College studying Organizational Studies and Music. During her time at Pitzer, she has organized music festivals and other events across campus, as well as performed with the Claremont Shades A Cappella group. From her experiences both at Pitzer and abroad, Tyra has developed a strong passion for expanding access to music education, resources, and opportunities to perform in low-income communities. She is extremely excited to work with YMF and to support the organization as we continue the transition to remote learning through the Online Music Academy.
Music technology and ukulele classes resumed at @dickisoncusd last week and we are so happy to be back! #YMFHearAndNow
