Tomorrow, April 30, is #NationalAnimalAdvocacyDay. Consider what you can do to help domestic animals and wildlife. Young Law advocates by providing its pro bono hours to a number of animal charities or providing financial support. Our list of favorite animal charities includes Best Friends Animal Society, In Defense of Animals, ASPCA, @compassionwithoutborders, Countryside Rescue Adoption Center, and FOUR PAWS, just to name a few.

Subway sued in federal court over allegations that their tuna sandwich is not only NOT tuna; it is not even fish. Instead, the plaintiffs allege, based on independent lab testing, the sandwiches contain a "concoction" of various materials made to look like tuna. Subway vigorously denies the allegations, saying their tuna is 100% caught in the wild. That's their defense?? That may fly in the lawsuit, but if that is true, Subway certainly isn't behaving in an environmentally responsible or sustainable manner. As for the plaintiffs, this lawsuit may have unintended consequences. Suppose Subway is lying now but decides to start offering "wild caught tuna." DISABILITY LAW ALERT - What this amounts to is a money grab for airlines already in trouble because of the pandemic by charging an exorbitant fee to people with physical or emotional disabilities who need support animals on flights. This seems problematic considering that an overwhelming number of people who commented on these new restrictions when they were first announced favored allowing people to continue bringing support animals on flights. Nevertheless, the Dept of Tra...ns went with the restrictions anyway. Who are they helping? Certainly not passengers with disabilities or in need of emotional support animals, so the comments that public trust was being eroded in service animals seems disingenuous, at best. Yet, these new rules are expected to raise tens of millions of new dollars for struggling airlines. So, what's next? Extra fees to ride public transportation with a service dog? See more
