Yolo County Sheriff's Office 31.12.2020

On Christmas day, Yolo County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call in the Winters area regarding a domestic violence incident. Tyler Webster, 33, of Davis, was involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend with Webster reportedly striking the victim and attempting to hit the victim with his vehicle. Webster had fled the scene prior to the Deputies' arrival. Follow-up investigation was conducted by YCSO Detectives. Last night, Detectives conducted a surveillanc...e operation in an attempt to locate Webster. Webster was located in his vehicle in the City of Dixon and arrested for domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon from the Christmas day incident. A search of his vehicle revealed approximately 1 ounce of methamphetamine and approximately $700.00 in cash. Webster was booked into the Yolo County Jail for the domestic violence related charges. Charges of possession for sale of a controlled substance will be forwarded to the Solano County District Attorney’s Office. Webster is currently on Yolo County Probation for possession for sale of a controlled substance and has been booked into the Yolo County jail 3 separate times for possession for sale a controlled substance since July 2020.

The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the person(s) responsible for a burglary at the Dunnigan Post Office. Between the hours of 5 pm on 12/23/20 and 7 am 12/24/20, an unknown person(s) forced entry into 24 Post Office Boxes and removed 40 packages. The Sheriff’s Office is searching for any witnesses who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in and around the Dunnigan Post Office during this time and/or any nearby residences with surveillance cameras that may have captured relevant footage. Arrest made after resident interrupts attempted burglary. Just before 9 am this morning, deputies were dispatched to an in-progress residential burglary on the 23000 block of County Road 99. The suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Eduardo Chavez of Woodland, broke a bedroom window but was scared off by an occupant of the home who yelled at him. The suspect attempted to flee the area on a bicycle but was apprehended by responding deputies. Chavez, who is on active par...ole, was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Chavez was placed under arrest for attempted burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting/obstructing a Peace Officer and for violation of parole.

Just after 8 am yesterday morning, our deputies responded to a report of an individual pointing what appeared to be a toy gun at passing traffic on Old River Road near County Road 124. Upon arrival, it became apparent the adult man was suffering from a mental illness and in crisis. The man initially withdrew into his vehicle, but after two hours of patient conversation the deputies were able bring the incident to a peaceful resolution. Calls involving persons experiencing mental health crises are often challenging. Fortunately for all involved, this person was safely transported to a mental health service provider due to the deputies' ability to effectively de-escalate the situation.

On 12/23/20, Yolo County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the Pilot Travel Center in Dunnigan, regarding a subject who had just left the business after stealing several items from inside. While enroute to the business, with the help of the employees from the Pilot Travel and their description of the vehicle involved, deputies were able to locate the vehicle near the Town of Yolo. Deputies conducted an enforcement stop on the vehicle and identified the lone occupant of th...e vehicle as 38-year-old Woodland resident Timothy Beitel. Along with the stolen property taken from the Pilot Travel Center, Beitel was found to have two outstanding warrants for his arrest. As the investigation continued, the vehicle that Beitel was driving was found to have been reported stolen out of Arizona. Beitel was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle. He was transported and booked at the Yolo County Jail

Deputies are investigating after a man was found dead on his property. On November 21, 2020, deputies were dispatched to the 24000 block of County Road 22a where a deceased adult was located by family members. The victim was later identified as 39-year-old Frank Estepa. The cause of death is now known to be a gunshot. The manner of death is still under investigation. ... Yolo County Sheriff's Office 16.11.2020

On December 18, 2020, just after 6:30 pm, one of our deputies came across two subjects involved in an argument in the parking lot of the Chevron station on E. Main Street in Woodland. Upon further investigation, it was determined to be a road rage incident that had unfolded just prior to the deputy’s arrival. The victim stated the suspect, 29-year-old Anthony Bee-Vega of Vacaville, brandished a handgun and threatened to shoot him. Bee-Vega was found to be in possession of a loaded and unregistered handgun. He was subsequently placed under arrest for brandishing and gun related charges and transported to the Yolo County Jail.

On October 25, 2020, at approximately 1 pm, four subjects entered a licensed marijuana site located several miles west of the city of Woodland. The subjects cut a fence to access the property. Two armed security guards spotted the subjects and as they approached, all four fled back to their vehicle. Prior to fleeing the scene one of the subjects fired two rounds from a handgun in the direction of the security guards. The subjects were driving a black SUV, possibly a BMW or ...Mercedes. One suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult, 5'08", medium to heavy build, and last seen wearing a red t-shirt and basketball shorts. A second suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult, 5'08", medium build, dark hair, and last seen wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. Yolo County Sheriff's Office 07.11.2020

On November 25, 2020, while working in cooperation with Yolo County Probation Officers, Yolo County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a probation search on 24-year-old Dunnigan resident Trayon Finley. During a search of Finley's room, a loaded .38 caliber revolver was located hidden inside of a bag of breakfast cereal. A check of the serial number of the revolver revealed the firearm to have been reported stolen out of Redmond, Oregon. Finley, who is currently on Post Release Co...mmunity Supervision in Yolo County, was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a stolen firearm, and a violation of his Yolo County probation status. Finley was booked at the Yolo County Jail on the above listed charges. Great coordination between Yolo County Probation and the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office to remove another firearm out of the hands of a prohibited person.

On July 31, 1979, 45-year-old Dolores Wulff vanished in the middle of the night from her home in Woodland. Today, with the cooperation of the Benicia Police Department we have additional information about the case to share. This case has haunted my office and, in fact, all of Yolo County since 1979. On 10/15/20, Yolo County Sheriff's Deputies were conducting routine patrol in the town of Knights Landing when they observed the front door open at a known parolee’s residence on the 42000 block of 4th Street. The deputy stopped at the residence and subsequently made contact with 47-year-old Knights Landing resident Christopher Wilson, and 37-year-old Woodland resident Neredia Jimenez. Wilson was found to have tried to flush a large quantity of methamphetamine down the toile...t of his residence. Wilson was unsuccessful and the methamphetamine was recovered by deputies before he could destroy it. Additionally, indicia for drug sales was also located inside of Wilson’s residence. Wilson was subsequently arrested for possession for sales of methamphetamine, destruction of evidence, and a violation of parole. Jimenez, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and an outstanding warrant.

Last night, Yolo County Deputies observed a white Honda CRV driving erratically just north of the Woodland city limits with only car dealership license plates attached to it. The vehicle made an abrupt turn onto Aspen Street from County Road 99 where it parked in front of a residence. Two male subjects exited the vehicle and began walking towards the residence. One subject, identified as 21-year-old Woodland resident David Azevedo, stopped when contacted by deputies. The sec...ond subject, later identified as 28-year-old Woodland resident Diego Martinez, ignored deputies and walked inside of the Aspen Street home. As this was occurring, additional deputies on scene checked the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the Honda and learned that it had been reported stolen on October 13th, 2020. With the approval of the home owner, deputies entered the residence and retrieved Mr. Martinez without incident. It was found later that neither Martinez or Azevedo lived at the Aspen Street address and Martinez had entered the residence without permission as he was trying to avoid law enforcement. At the end of the investigation, both Azevedo and Martinez were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of a stolen vehicle. Additionally, Martinez was charged with violation of probation while Azevedo was charged with possession of a methamphetamine smoking pipe. Both subjects were transported and booked at the Yolo County Jail.

In the early morning hours of October 7th, Deputies located a stolen Cadillac Escalade on South River Road near Babel Slough Road in the Clarksburg area. Zaytrell Hubbard (29) of Sacramento was found to be in possession of the vehicle. Hubbard was arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle and booked into Yolo County Jail.

***UPDATE*** Thanks to input from the community, Deputies were quickly able to identify Demetrius Martinello, 23, of Esparto as the suspect in the below referenced animal cruelty investigation. Martinello was arrested on one count of felony animal cruelty. Martinello was booked into the Yolo County jail. Original Post:... Deputies are investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty in the Esparto area. Esparto Unified School District employees located a deceased cat on school grounds during the morning of September 28, 2020. A surveillance video was located depicting a male kicking and punching the cat on school grounds. Additional videos showed the male dragging the cat with a rope. The deceased cat is described as a gray colored possible Siamese cat. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the community in this investigation. On September 24, 2020, at approximately 9:30 am, Yolo County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of County Road 19B and County Road 97A after a concerned resident spotted an unfamiliar vehicle parked in that area with people inside. Deputies contacted James Thurman, 28, of Davis and Megan Phillips, 24, of Woodland in the vehicle. During the contact it was determined that Thurman had outstanding felony warrants for his arrest from Butte County. He was also found to be ...in possession of approximately 1/2 ounce of methamphetamine. Phillips was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Thurman was arrested on the Butte County Felony warrants and possession of methamphetamine. Phillips was arrested for possession of methamphetamine/drug paraphernalia and a felony probation violation. The Sheriff's Office is thankful to community members who stay vigilant and report suspicious incidents.

On September 22, 2020, at about 1:35 pm, Yolo County Sheriff's Deputies located William Smith, 42, on the 25000 block of County Road 99 with an off-road vehicle that was stolen the previous night from the Wildhorse Golf Course. Smith abandoned the vehicle, jumped on another ATV, and fled. A perimeter was quickly established around the North Davis Meadows neighborhood. Smith abandoned the ATV he was riding in the back yard of a residence on Spanish Bay Place and he was subsequently located hiding nearby. Smith was arrested and booked for possession of stolen property and evading.

At about 2:20 this morning, Yolo County Sheriff's Deputies stopped a vehicle on I-5 near Hwy 113. During the traffic stop a loaded .22 caliber handgun was located as well as methamphetamine. George Boone, 27, and Solomon Lawrence, 41, both of Sacramento, were placed under arrest. Lawrence was booked for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a loaded firearm in public and possession of methamphetamine. Boone was booked for carrying a loaded firearm in public and possession of methamphetamine.

On September 20, 2020, just before 8 am, Yolo County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of County Road 22 at the west end of the Yolo Bypass after a fisherman located a male juvenile that had been the victim of an assault. The victim was transported to a local hospital with major injuries. Detectives conducted follow-up and determined Oleg Lavrenko, 18, of Sacramento, was a suspect in the assault. Later the same day, Lavrenko was located at his residence in Sacramen...to and arrested for attempted murder, kidnapping, mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury. A motive for the incident is still being investigated. Last night, at about 10:45 PM, Yolo County Sheriff's Deputies were alerted by dispatch to be on the lookout for a stolen Nissan last seen on the east side of Woodland. About fifteen minutes later, the vehicle was located and stopped on Camacho Avenue near Ortiz Way in Woodland with the assistance of a Woodland PD K9.
