Today is the 45th Anniversary of the Soweto Uprising. On June 16th 1976, thousands of black students went on a protest rally from their schools to Orlando Stadium. They were protesting against an official order which made Afrikaans mandatory in Black township schools throughout the country. The protest played a key role in ending apartheid. Over 100 students were killed by white policemen during the protest + we wanted to make sure we commemorate these brave children. ... Sarafina is one of my favorite childhood movies + gives insight into this monumental movement. If you’ve never seen it, put it on your to-do list!
