Over the last 4 months we have hung 3 "Black Lives Matter" banners in front of WRUMC. Sometime last night the third one was stolen. The banner that went up on June 8th was gone by June 22nd. The banner that went up on July 9th was gone by August 3rd. The banner that went up on September 16th (pictured and identical to July 9th's banner) was gone this morning. ... This follows on the heels of receiving a call at the church last week from someone who objected to our "Black Lives Matter" banner because BLM is a violent organization in her words. BLM is such a simple statement of values. It's not even an anti-racist change or action. Hanging an banner is easy; it's not even the real work that needs to be done. But with each missing banner, it's a reminder of how much work needs to be done.
