Through reading about Elizabeth's inspirational story, learn how the Global Women's Water Initiative (GWWI) has helped to transform the lives of women. With the COVID-19 pandemic, hygiene education has never been more important. GWWI is currently working towards bringing vital COVID-19 hygiene education, masks and hand-washing stations to villages across East Africa. We have til midnight tonight to reach our $10,000 goal! We'd love your support! We are so proud to share our impact to date. In short, our trainees - built 1996 technologies - offered 869 WASH trainings, ... - increased their income 3x from $81/mo (mostly from farming), to $290/month from their new WASH income. You can read the entire impact report here. http://tiny.cc/gwwi-totalimpact-2020 Over the past 8 years, with 2 cohorts of trainees (the second cohort is only halfway through the program due to Covid delays), our DIRECT impact has reached over 175,600 people! This number represents the people whom GWWI trainees have provided WASH solutions. This does not include the families and neighbors and other community members who have benefitted from their new knowledge and access to WASH solutions. We know from our field research conducted in 2017 by Uganda Rainwater Harvesting Association and students from Claremont McKenna College and Scripps College interviewing nearly all women rainwater harvesting masons and other male masons, women share knowledge freely because they prioritize WASH, regardless of funding or other incentives. This tells us that the other women who were trained by our trainees (the majority were women!), likely shared their knowledge across their communities as well. It has been 8 years since GWWI launched the Women's Water Leadership Academy (WWLA), a 4-year program where women learn every aspect of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), multiple and varied solutions, and how to earn money and exert influence in their communities. Our previous model was a 1 year program providing seed funds for the implementation of 1 WASH technology solution. We naively believed that we'd have broader reach with this model. But when the women learned how water, sanitation and hygiene are inextricably linked, they wanted to learn EVERYTHING! They ASKED. We LISTENED. And here we are today, proving that when you go deep, not only can you have broader reach, you can ensure long lasting sustainable necessary change. The women's groundswell of impact has rippled out beyond their villages, into other communities, and their influence has been recognized on international platforms. Our model is simple. Build Expertise. Expand Influence. Foster Self-Reliance. It has been a journey of ebbs and flows, flubs and humble learnings, and most of all, a celebration of how water connects us, how grassroots women can lead us, and how communities can flourish when we all work together. We thank you for reading our stories, following the lives of these extraordinary women, and supporting our tiny little drop making waves in Africa and beyond. May 2021 bring you joy, health and h2ope! With an ocean of gratitude, Gemma, Godliver, Comfort, Rose and Rosemary You can donate on our website - https://www.globalwomenswater.org/

Read about Rose and her experience with the Global Women's Water Initiative (GWWI). Through GWWI, she has taught other girls and women how to engage in soapmaking and even turn it into a business. Women tend to be more entrepreneurial because they have no access to the formal labor force. If they don't have to fetch water, they can participate in income generating activities. Help empower other women by learning more about GWWI and by donating, please visit https://www.globalwomenswater.org/ to learn more!
