Our dedicated CARE Team put together a helpful guide for our families to talk about the U.S. election From the CARE Team: As always, schools and families play a critical role in helping our community feel safe on election day and during this season by creating a positive learning environment for all students. It is imperative that we facilitate respectful discussions among students and safeguard the well-being of those who may feel at risk. Please review the recommendations for how educators, parents/caregivers, and other adults can support children and youth in the days and months ahead. Now that we’ve settled into distance learning, we want to keep a direct line of communication open to our community on the COVID-19 outlook and what that means for Wiseburn USD. To that end, we are establishing a new bi-monthly email with the Wiseburn COVID-19 Dashboard, which will provide snapshots of the state’s most recent COVID-19 data, context about what that means for schools, and resources relevant to our Wiseburn community. School Site Spotlight The spirit of innovation has really taken hold at Cabrillo this fall, more than ever before! When faced with the challenge of meeting new students and starting the school year remotely, Cabrillo teachers rose to the occasion by thinking creatively. In TK, Ms. Schumacher’s annual gingerbread man activity evolved and managed to be more fun than ever. While traditionally the lost gingerbread men appear on campus, this year (thanks to some helpful family... members!) the paper gingerbread men somehow appeared in each student’s home for them to find during a live Zoom. In kindergarten, the beginning of the year color weeks brought some brightness to Zooms, and Coach’s Shakstad’s rainbow scavenger hunt added to the fun. Throughout first and second grades, creative Bitmoji classrooms and welcoming instructional videos made by our teachers have helped begin to create a sense of school at home. While we all look forward to eventually returning to campus, until then the Cabrillo staff will continue to innovate to bring the best of Cabrillo home!
