Reports of heavy metals in baby foods are in the news again. The best way to avoid too much any one item in your food is to eat a variety of foods. Eat foods from all food groups (grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy and protein). Parents can take several steps to reduce heavy metal exposure in their infants by providing a variety of fortified infant cereals rather than rely solely on infant rice cereal and, for toddlers and older children, provide a well-balanced diet which includes a variety of grains.
