Over the past several weeks, communities across the country have bravely spoken up to demand change. It will take sustained work by all of us to answer the cal...l. That’s why I’m urging California’s law enforcement agencies to immediately adopt 9 key police reforms to improve our public safety. However, this is just an initial step. I look forward to working with local authorities and advocacy groups across California and our state legislature to work with us in actively engaging in policing reform. Together we can increase transparency and accountability in policing, reduce excessive use of force, and improve the public’s trust in law enforcement. We cannot afford to ignore the realities faced by Black Americans and people of color in this nation. Now is the time for action by leaders at every level. https://oag.ca.gov//attorney-general-becerra-calls-broad-p

2018 Postcard Project Results! Last year, I asked many of you to join me in helping create personal postcards that were mailed to a segment of our population in... GOTV efforts for our Democratic slate, Tatiana Matta, Whitney Weddell and Nick Nicita. These postcards were designed to connect with the recipient in a way that elicited a personal voter to voter connection. Each postcard had a personal handwritten message by one of our participants and also promoted the slate of candidates we felt connected best with our democratic values. Here are the results and points of interest of the postcard effort. 1) We focused our attention to 5000 constituents that NEVER vote in zip code 93313. 2) Out of 4200 households, 3000 received personalized postcards. 3) The voter turnout in this population of constituents was a little over 1500. 4) We increased voting propensity by 25%. 5) I estimate the cost of each vote was approximately .86 cents. Conclusion: Our voter-outreach postcard effort was a tremendous success; we want to expand and reach more voters in targeted areas. Given the increased voter propensity of 2018, this effort will make a significant difference and ensure more Democrats vote in Kern County. Thanks to all who participated last year. I will be asking for more writers and support for the November 2020 election cycle. This project was a lot of fun, promoted teamwork and empowered us all to make a difference in our community. Stay tuned for the next big postcard push! We are just getting started!
Kern County Voters- If you are voting by mail, you can track the status of your ballot here: https://www.kernvote.com//CurrentElectio/VotebyMailStatus
If you are mailing in your ballot, make sure it counts! You MUST put your voting address, signature AND date on the back, or it will not count. Also, don’t sign on the yellow flap unless you’re having someone else turn it in for you, and do not check the box unless you spoiled your ballot & need a new one. Also, use two stamps.
