When hatred comes knocking, tell it it’s not welcome! This is not new. It’s been happening for centuries. When will we be sick of it?! We need to educate ourselves, listen and know that we cannot fully understand this with our privilege. Being white, we have had the privilege others have not. We need to listen. To learn. I know this might seem like I am bouncing around with my thoughts and feelings/emotions .... the fact is I am. But it’s better than silence. George Floyd and... countless others were someone’s son, brother, mentor, friend, husband, wife. This photo is of George and his mother. Too many have suffered under systematic injustices that have been going on for far too long. I cannot speak to the injustice that POC have experienced. I understand that I can’t understand. I can only be with you. I’m appalled, in fact, I have been appalled for years. I was pregnant with my son during the Rodney King riots. I’m tired of people talking about love. I believe in my heart it is possible for change. Think outside yourself, what is the footprint you want to leave on someone else’s life? We need to do the work, the real work. It’s not enough to have empathy for injustice - use your voice. How many times have you stood by and watched injustices happen and not spoken up? Use your voice. Silence is the enemy. There is no middle. If you are neutral, that is racism. We cannot let this go on! Yes it is uncomfortable and painful to talk about, imagine GENERATIONS of oppression. I’m a white woman, I feel like who am I to speak on this? But we cannot be silent. We hear you, we see you, and we are with you.

Wanted to pop on here and express what I’ve been feeling over the past few months. When this all started, there were such mixed emotions running through everyone’s minds. We felt sad, scared, mad, and happy to be spending time with our loved ones. It has been so chaotic for many businesses and people that we love and hold dear. Those mixed emotions have continued as we all navigate these uncharted waters and figure out how to get back on our feet. There was a time where I was... terrified at what the doors being closed for so long would mean for White Fig. Would mean for our community. But I see it, I see us all starting to come out of it on the other side and I know that we can do this together. The amount of overwhelming support we have received from other local businesses, those of you ordering flowers, and some of you just checking in to make sure that we are doing okay has meant so much to us! Many of you may not know, but within the last 2 weeks, the floral industry has been in utter chaos as flowers were arriving to the market dead or burned from being overheated. Millions of dollars of flowers had to be tilled in the weeks before that as no one was able to pick the flowers. But somehow, vendors came together and were able to provide flowers. Our team at White Fig was so helpful and worked hard to make sure that our orders were organized, created, and delivered to your Mamas. We were able to produce more orders for Mother’s Day than we had ever done in previous years - and for that we thank you! It may not be easy, but we will get through this.
