The Behavioral Health Training Collaborative (BHTC) Presents a Special Event: The S Word Documentary Screening & Discussion: Talking about Suicide Join us on Thursday, February 18th for a virtual screening of THE S WORD and virtual discussion with two Western Youth Services mental health professionals following the film.... ABOUT THE FILM: THE S WORD is a powerful feature documentary that skillfully weaves stories of survivors from a cross-section of America including LGBT, African American and Asian American communities, who candidly share their profoundly emotional stories of trauma, mental health challenges, survival, and advocacy. The film’s narrative flows organically from one story to the next, starting with personal moments and building emotional momentum before widening out to show how their journeys are driving the national movement to take the S word from unthinkable to preventable. Rita Pierson's TED talk is about her experience of being a teacher for 40 years. She onceheard a colleague say, "They don't pay me to like the kids." Her response: "Kids don't learn from people they don't like.'" A rousing call to educators to believe in their students and actually connect with them on a real, human, personal level. #teachersrock #TEDtalk https://bit.ly/3nzoMqN

WYS started as a community partnership of caring individuals in 1972 and has grown in many ways in over the last 48 years. Our village of collaborative partners is stronger and more dedicated than ever, here they share the importance of collaborating with schools and supporting teachers and school leadership. By collaborating with school districts, police departments, and other nonprofits who provide adjacent services, we are able to provide children and families in our commu...nity with preventative mental health support. By joining forces, we are able to create a ripple effect and and help so many more kids. People increasingly want to know about the impact of childhood trauma, how they can prevent it, and how they can heal it. This is what we do... every day. #MentalHealthChampions #nonprofit #storiesofhealing #TraumaInformedCare #MentalHealthOC
