Please enjoy a word from our Area director and WeHoT member Samantha Neyland on the importance of Juneteenth and her successful fight to get Hawaii to officially recognize it. Due in large part to her efforts, Gov. David Ige signed a bill on Wednesday officially recognizing Juneteenth as an official day of remembrance in Hawaii.
What are you waiting for? That’s a question our toastmaster Jim Ye had us ponder in our last meeting. He drove home how we can't allow fear, doubt or waiting for the ‘perfect time’ to get in the way of trying new experiences, chasing our dreams and pushing ourselves. Our meeting also included two amazing speeches: Valerie Morishige broke down how bills become laws and why we need to eliminate, or replace, the filibuster. And our president, Brianna Ancel gave us an overview of her top 10 career tips for up-and-coming actors (from her Amazon best seller book 10 Top 10s From A 10 Percenter).
Get to know the members of WeHoT. Second up, our immediate past president, Richard Willett, who routinely delivers some of the strongest and emotionally resonant speeches we've ever heard.
Teenage Fabulosity ended up being the meeting theme that kept on giving, from epic (and awkward) high-school photos to vulnerable stories of seeking love, finding identity and gaining confidence. Our Toastmaster Richard Willett, headed a meeting that was the perfect mix of nostalgia and reflection. Additionally, KC Ong gave a thought-provoking speech on the controversy surrounding transgender women competing in women’s sports. Lastly, we had a truly unforgettable session of Table Topics (congrats Tracy!). Thank you to everyone who came out.
Join us as we welcome 2001 World Champion of Public Speaking, Darren LaCroix this Saturday as our Keynote speaker in the morning and holding an interactive workshop during the afternoon. Register Now https://buff.ly/2QppSK6 #toastmasters #district1toastmasters #worldchampion
