My kids would love to this with our dogs!
Helpful tips from Dr. V about veterinary care for your pet during this crisis time. I am on a pre-planned family break (sorry New Mexico, we’ll see you another time!) so not seeing patients for the next two weeks, but MASH like other veterinary offices is open. Stay healthy, stay safe, and snuggles to your dogs and cats.... https://medium.com//what-if-my-pet-gets-sick-in-a-shutdown
Geared towards vet clinics but good info for pet owners, too. Life will be very different for at least the next few months so better to be prepared for the shift then caught unaware. https://www.wormsandgermsblog.com//social-distancing-and-/
A bright spot in an otherwise gloomy news cycle.
As veterinarians we are always thinking about individual health and herd health, which is how the individual can impact health of the group. In light of the spread of coronavirus this is something that everyone is being forced to think about. In case any of my fellow dog lovers were worried about the virus’s impact on their canine companion I’m sharing a good summary below. It is still relatively early in the course of this disease but as of now there is no evidence to sho...w that dogs can become sick from covid-19 or that they can transmit the virus to their humans. To help keep you and other humans healthy and safe: wash your hands, don’t touch your face (this is the hardest one for me since I do it without even thinking about it), stay home if you can, and don’t panic. Puppy hugs and hearts to all. https://blog.wisdompanel.com/coronavirus-in-dogs/
Just because something is natural doesn’t automatically mean it is safe. Probiotics can be an amazing help for dogs and cats with GI disease (and maybe even chronic skin issues), but not all product or concentrations work the same. And they should be use with caution in patients with compromised immune systems, like those undergoing chemotherapy or who have low white blood cell counts.
In case you needed another reason to love dogs...
Raw meat diets are risky for pets and their people, too.
