Crib to Toddler Bed The Big Transition... Ideal age = 3 (and if you saw my last IGTV vid, DJ’s crib jumping has forced us into transitioning early - NOT ideal and is requiring a lot of patience, practice and consistency, but we’re doing it!) We wanted to create some big boy bed excitement and had him pick out some new construction truck bedding by @addisonbelleco (100% Organic Muslin) He loves it! ... Toddler Pillow is from @urbaninfant Pipsqueak pillow is kid-sized, great support, machine washable, 100% cotton and hypoallergenic Remove any extra toys from their room that they may be tempted to get out of bed and play with. Once they’ve got it, you can add back in. Expectations ~ important you communicate with your toddler that they are expected to go to bed and stay in their big boy/girl bed all night...encourage, stay consistent, don’t give up, incentivize, and celebrate the little wins! Toddlers are experts at STALLING! Tactics like ~ one more book, and another, and another, I need milk, hold my hand, I need a band aid...you get it! So, to combat their expert negotiation skills and cute faces, here are some tips: . .... Have a 5 Min timer go off before bedtime routine, this is their time to ask for ALL the things and wrap up with play. Have a bedtime nightly and make sure it’s not up for discussion. Create a bedtime routine so that they know what to expect nightly. Give them a choice of PJ’s and Books, just make sure to stick with their choices. This helps empower them. Ignore stalling tactics! . . Toddlers naturally resist, but I promise they don’t hate bedtime. They also crave and thrive with routine and consistency See more

Toddlers are the best when it comes to STALLING! Tactics like ~ one more book, and another, and another, I want milk, I need a bandaid, hold my hand, you get it... So, to combat their expert negotiation skills and cute faces, here are some tips: Have a 5 minute timer go off before their routine begins and this is their time to ask for all the things, and wrap up with play time!... A consistent bedtime daily that’s not up for discussion. A nightly bedtime routine, stick with it and keep it short and sweet - 30 min. Give them an option for books and PJ’s to help empower them and make them feel in control, but then stick with their decisions. Ignore the stalling tactics! While toddlers naturally resist, they also crave and need the structure and consistency

Let’s be honest, no one wants to be up before 6! Shoot, before 7 even (or maybe just me). But, important to understand that the internal clock of babies and toddlers operates early. 6-7am is a natural morning wake window. So, if you’re experiencing early rises, important to know what factors can cause this! . . Developmental early rises are natural for a short period of time, but schedule and over-tiredness factors can be helped!

It’s all about Perspective! Regression sounds negative. Little ones are simply are growing and that’s a good thing! A regression will not cause a child to lose sleep skills, it will only disrupt sleep for a few days or 1-2 weeksOur job is to stay the course with routines and consistency keeping sleep independent, they will get right back on track . . THE WHY? Growth & Development - physically and mentally. Ask yourself...is my baby doing something new lately? Starting t...o learn a new skill & achieving the milestone, then perfecting the skill (i.e. rolling, sitting up, verbal skills, etc.) . . Mental Health We often focus on the child when talking about sleep. But, let’s not forget about the struggles of the Mother...stress, anxiety, exhaustion, frustration, post partum depression. ~ Lack of sleep is simply no joking matter! . . Sleep Deprivation = cognitive impairment, memory lapse or loss, impaired immune system, irritability, an increased risk of developing health issues, and this goes on.... . . Guess what?! You need 8-9 hours of solid rest Being a parent should never mean indefinite sleepless nights. We cannot pour from an empty cup, Mamas. See more
