Happy Monday Wanderlusters! This Wednesday, November 14 we are welcoming VONA writers, and you won't want to miss their inspiring tales of travel. Our event is at Cafe Bastille (22 Belden Pl) at 7pm sharp, but come socialize with us a little earlier if you can. Our last bio is that of Dr. Cristina Rose (VONA Travel ’13) . Grand-daughter of Priscilla of New Mexico and Concepcion of Cebu, Cristina was born in LA and has a PhD in Women’s Philosophy from the California Institute... of Integral Studies in San Francisco. Her artwork Sacred Heart of Mango appears in Jota with Korima Press, while her article Stories of Multicultural Integrative Solidarity appears in Vibrant Voices with Goddess Ink. As a mother, an artist, a writer, and a Gender and Ethnic Studies Professor at CSU-Dominguez Hills, Cristina is engaged with muxer-affirming and indigenous-rooted communities based out of Long Beach. Weekday Wanderlust 11.02.2021

Hello Wanderluster! Our event is just around the corner and our readers have been brushing up their storytelling skills just for you! Please come out on Wednesday November 14 to Cafe Bastille (22 Belden Pl). Readings start promptly at 7pm but there will be drinks at 6pm. RSVP at our event page, please. Our next BIO is that of Yodassa Williams (VONA Travel '17). Known in the Bay Area as The Black Burning Man Girl, Yodassa is a queer black writer and award-winning performin...g storyteller. Her fiction and poetry weave worlds of fantasy, while her nonfiction explores her travel adventures. She will be reading from her forthcoming memoir about her personal evolution over 5 years spent as a Burner. An alumna of the VONA/Voices Travel Writing Workshop, Yodassa was selected for the Fortify Writer’s Retreat (2018) and won Grand Prize at Awaken Café’s Storytelling Showdown (2016) and 1st Prize at StorySlam Oakland (2016 & 2017). She teaches storytelling craft to girls of color through Girls, Inc., and her storytelling podcast, The Black Girl Magic Files, is available on iTunes and Soundcloud. Weekday Wanderlust 09.02.2021

Hi Wanderlusters. We are looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday, November 14. Remember we are temporarily at Cafe Bastille (22 Belden Pl, San Francisco). We are thrilled to be welcoming Voices of Our Nations Arts Foundation (VONA) readers, along with founder Faith Adiele. Our first reader BIO is that of talented Sriram Shamasunder, MD (VONA Travel ‘14). He is a doctor/poet who started writing poetry in college at UC Berkeley, where he studied and taught with June Jordan...’s Poetry for the People. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at UCSF and co-founder of the HEAL Initiative, a health workforce fellowship with 50+ fellows in 7 countries and the Navajo Nation. He was awarded the Young Physician of the Year (2010) by the Northern California Chapter of the American College of Physicians, named an Asia21 Fellow (2012) by the Asia Foundation, and selected to be a Fulbright-Nehru scholar to India (2012). He is interested in telling necessary, under-told stories, as well as health equity. His 2016 Berkeley Tedx talk is entitled "Whose Suffering Matters Less and Why? Please RSVP at our event page.
