Water Wise Wednesday Houseplant: For a no-mess watering of a houseplant, let a couple of ice cubes slowly melt into the soil of the potted plant. As the ice melts, the soil absorbs the water and it doesn’t drip out the bottom of the pot.

Garden Tip Tuesday Stock: After seedlings sprout, the double-flowering stocks can be selected instead of the single-flowering ones. The least vigorous seedlings and those that have darker leaves are apt to be singles. For the highest percentage of double flowers, select only the palest light green seedlings.

Misc Monday Barometer: Do you know how to set your weather barometer? To adjust a local barometer reading to sea level, add .01 inch for every 10 feet of elevation above sea level. Subtract .01 inch for every 10 feet below sea level.

Garden Tip Tuesday Chrysanthemums: When these perennials finish blooming, cut them down to a few inches above the ground. They will begin to grow again next March. Mums naturally bloom around July. You can let them bloom lightly, then prune them back a few inches...to produce their main display in the fall.

Misc Monday Garden Tip Lilac: To keep a lilac plant vigorous, prune every few years. Cut out a few of the oldest stems, all the way down to the soil. Remove any dead and weak growth. Leave some of the newer growth. Trim off any seeds. This will improve the plant’s appearance and overall health.
