Trees! When I am Wandering Around Outdoors I see a world replete with subjects and shapes that attract my eye and mind. Here I am interested in the basic triangle of most trees. A quick drive or short walk from the Steinbeck Family House in Salinas, CA takes you to the National Steinbeck Center and the opportunity to see details of his life’s work and his Pulitzer and Noble Prizes. As with most randomly lit large interior spaces this one presents any number of photographic challenges including exposure: how to correctly commingle direct and reflected light using existing ambient light, shutter speed and flash fill. On the Steinbeck trail a few months ago, I had lunch at the Steinbeck family house in Salinas, CA (where John Steinbeck was born). Check out this ongoing effort on the part of the National Parks Conservation Association to add the Simi Hills, the Santa Susanna Mountains and the Verdugos to (either) the SMMNRA or to have it have its own designation as a separate National Monument.
