Walnut Station Booster Club 11.11.2020

Students from Harbin, China visited Walnut-Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station On February 22, 2019, a group of foreign students from Harbin, China visited Walnut-Di...amond Bar Sheriff’s Station, along with City of Walnut Councilmember Eric Ching. Walnut Station Captain Alfred Reyes, Operations Lieutenant Steven Tousey and Line Patrol Sergeant David Chi also were present and provided a tour to the group. The Chinese students were from Harbin Jihong Elementary, Harbin Garden Elementary, Harbin Tieling Elementary, and Harbin 69th Middle School. It was one of the biggest group of visitors Walnut Station has ever had, totaling 98 students! The students were very excited, and eager to learn about the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Department. Captain Reyes led the tour, showing the students the different aspects and functions of the station. The highlight of the tour was when Captain Reyes paused to speak to the group about their future endeavors and to make them feel welcomed at Walnut Station. This outreach of good will was an example of the value the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department holds toward culture and community. https://bit.ly/2H5dffW See more

Over the course of the typical year, our Reserve Deputies, Civilian Volunteers, Deputy Explorers and Disaster Communications Service members assist with numerous local community events. Our Deputy Explorer Color Guard performs 12-15 Flag Ceremonies, for the cities of Diamond Bar and Walnut, the community of Rowland Heights, and many other entities. The Explorers also assist with many other community events, such as Walnut Family Fun Fest, the Diamond Bar City Birthday, Ro...wland Heights Buckboard Days and more. The Reserve Deputies, in addition to patrolling our communities, assist with all of our local events as well. Forest Lawn's Day of the Dead festival, National Night Out, Concert in the Parks, and many others keep our Reserves busy, The Civilian Volunteers are actively involved with virtually all of the Station events, in addition to their regular duties. And, many of them assist with Sheriff's Department events away from the Station area. The Walnut Station Booster Club is proud to support these hard-working members of the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station.

The Sheriff's Department Explorer Program is for youth interested in a career in law enforcement or community service who are between the ages of 14 and 21. Explorer applicants must attend an 18 week academy, consisting of 184 hours of lectures, demonstrations, presentations, defensive tactics, and leadership development. Explorers work at numerous community events during the course of the year. They perform non-hazardous duties, such as foot patrols and KidPrint. They also perform Color Guard ceremonies for the Cities of Walnut, Diamond Bar, and Relay for Life events. They also do ride-a-longs with deputies in the communities we provide services to. For additional information regarding the Explorer Program, please contact the Explorer Coordinator at 909-595-2264.

In addition to Volunteers on Patrol, the Civilian Volunteer Program offers a wide variety of assignments and opportunities to assist with the daily operations of our Station. Volunteers work at the Public Front Lobby, answering questions and directing citizens to the appropriate resources. They assist our Detective Bureau with various tasks such as follow-up phone calls to victims of Burglaries. Most importantly, our Volunteers are actively involved in community events, such ...as Trunk or Treat, National Night Out, Concerts in the Park and many more. Community Relations is a big part of the Civilian Volunteer Program, and we are extremely proud of all of our Volunteers who take time out of their busy lives to help us in serving our local communities. For information on becoming a LASD Civilian Volunteer, please call the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff's Station at 909-595-2264 and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator. Or, send an email to WAL/[email protected]. Applications are also available in the Station Public Lobby.
