Day 42- now officially tourists! #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Day 41 - and we are almost there!! We walked almost 6 miles today and will walk another 6 tomorrow to reach Santiago de Compostela. We had one last sighting of cows and sheep, but it's mostly forest paths today. There are more houses, and pilgrims, and signs for Santiago. There's an energy in the air and we pilgrims are all excited to, not finish, but reach Santiago. #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Day 39 - we walked about 8 miles today through mostly forest. This is probably our last cow and chicken day as the farms are changing yet again to less livestock and more corn. We pilgrims eat whatever we can wherever we can find a cafe. #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Day 38 - a short walk today (4 miles) in the mist. We are now officially less than a marathon from Santiago. We are staying in the large town (7,000) of Arzua. #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Day 36 - we walked around 9 miles today into Melide. We have around 50 kilometres to walk, but since the last few days were longish we are walking shorter distances the next two days. We are so excited to see the kilometer markers click down! #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Day 35 - we left our albergue and walked roughly 7-8 miles to Palas de Rei. Lots of lovely cows! Also on our way, we are seeing more pilgrims and therefore more cafes and Albergues. #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Day 32 - leaving Sarria, we are not alone. There is a noticeable increase in the number of pilgrims! There is an excitement with these new pilgrims. There is an increase of services to match. Even when there are no cafes, someone has set up a fruit and water stand. We even came across a man in traditional garb playing a bagpipe. We are in the heart of Galicia area and it is very Irish. #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Day 30 - day 30? Yes! We walked to Villafranca del Bierzo today. We decided to take the flatter route and we thought we were following the signs but in the end we ended up taking a wrong turn and took the hillier route instead. Apparently this was the road less travelled as we were the only pilgrims! #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Day 29 - we walked to Cacabelos today (about 8 miles). It had rained in the night and we wore our fleece jackets today. We've only had a few warm days and thankfully only one truly rainy day. #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Our hotel in Ponferrada is near the castle of the Templars from the 12th century. Anyone who dreamed of being a knight should see this place! #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

The Iron Cross stands at the highest point of the Camino (1504 metres). It is here that people leave an object which they have carried from home. The object can symbolize a burden that one is leaving behind or a symbol of hope or love. It is one of the main symbols along the Camino. #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Day 26 - a three mile walk to Mansilla de las Mulas to catch the bus to Leon. And, Yes, we are staying at the Parador, like in the movie The Way! It is too beautiful and wonderful for words today. #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop

Day 24 - walking from Sahagun to El Burgo Ranero we stopped by an albergue/cafe literally in the middle of nowhere. There were no gluten-free items, but the hostess made Verna up a plate of cheese, meat and tomatoes. Every day I start my day off witha cafe con leche and Verna has a Cola-Cao (steamed milk with hot chocolate mix). Yes, life is tough for us pilgrims. #Camino #LoveToWalk #TheWalkShop
