This year will be our 3rd annual Photo Expo as a part of GEO Week and we are hoping to make it the largest ever by showcasing photos from every year that Vanguard has sent teams out, either on a mission trip or as a study abroad student, and you are a vital part of completing that vision! If you have any photos from your outreach or study abroad trip that you would like to submit for our photo expo, please click this link to upload them along with a short description. We will showcase at least one photo from everyone who submits appropriate content in our virtual photo gallery and all showcases will be eligible to win a prize! Our last Flash from the Past comes from current VU Senior, Alexia Mendoza who was in the Latin American Studies Program with @bestsemester . . Alexia says that I’ve always wanted to study abroad. I was able to experience a little bit of what my parents experienced when they were students before they migrated to the US - I’ve always wanted to experience that. Our Flash from the Past comes from @vugeo student intern and VU senior, Chelsea Mascareno. . Chelsea participated on our summer program with @compactfamilyservices where the primary focus is supporting foster care children and youth. Chelsea says: The last 3 years at VU have been a blast, from the late nights at Canes to Shine to Floor Events, but one of my favorite memories was going to Arkansas. I remember being a Freshman, so eager to start college and anxious to be part... of something. In the midst of looking, I stumbled upon the GEO Office and heard that students were able to Study Abroad or do an Outreach Trip and I was sold. I applied, not knowing that the GEO office was part of God’s plan for my life. While being part of the GEO team, I learned how to constantly trust God, and to allow Him in while in the midst of frustration. I learned how to grow as a person and how to make great connection. Our next Flash from the Past is dedicated to Vanguard University Alumni Joe Allbaugh. . Our own amazing Associate Dean, Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences and fellow alum, Dr. Liz Powell was a faculty lead for the 2016 study abroad program and describes the experience as follows: A group of 18 psych majors and 2 faculty spent 5 weeks in Kenya. During this time, the students got to do internships in the local community, take classes from both VU and Kenyan professors ...and eat with families in local homes. Our own SGA president and current senior, Joe Contreras, is our next Flash from the Past. Sometimes we must step out of our comfort zone and into a different environment with a willing heart to serve God to see how he can use us for his glory. It is a blessing to be a small piece of God’s masterpiece in different parts of the world. Through GEO I have been to the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Washington DC. Through these trips God has shown me that His love has no language barrier, there is beauty in the debris of storms that come in life, the hope of the world lies in the local church, and with prayer there is still hope for a divided nation. #vuoutreach #onthegowithgeo #vugeo #wearevu #vu100
