As the NSBA President, I have the opportunity to ensure equity and access is at the forefront of NSBA's work with school boards. I recently attended the Pacific Region Board Meeting of the 9 most western states.

Wise words from a 5th-grade student, "Success to me is having a chance to show what I can do, instead of one test telling the world what I can't do."

Important news from #SRJC Assessment Services: All students will soon have an opportunity to qualify for transfer-level math and English using a new placement... tool: their high school records. With the newly-enacted Assembly Bill 705, students will receive a placement using high school records instead of previous assessment tests. The new placement process will include a variety of academic and student support services. Additional details will be sent to our students by email in October 2018. See more

Sitting at tables is no longer enough... we need to stand on them, said our compelling speaker Adan Gonzales - CUBE Equity Conference.

It is an honor to represent Santa Rosa City Schools and California as the NSBA President. One of the great opportunities I have is to attend the Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) Conference. So many committed and experienced board members working hard for all kids.

The Clark County Mariachi also has a Mariachi that includes all the Mariachi musicians from the same high school. Beautiful music bringing communities together.

At the NSBA Equity Symposium, I was also able to see the performance of an all-girl Mariachi group from Clark County, Nevada. These talented young women are National Champions. Curricular programs like these keep our children safe and in school.
