TVUSD School Board Update: I was recently notified by the Riverside County Registrar of Voters that I will be Appointed in Lieu to the Governing Board Member seat for Trustee Area 4! This means I will be rejoining the school board soon. To clarify further, when a candidate qualifies but is unopposed, they are removed from the ballot and appointed to the position. Poetic justice... That said, please remember to vote as there are two other school board seats up for election this November. Please learn about the candidates and make your voice heard! Recently, I have received questions regarding the election this fall and asking if I am planning on running again to regain my seat as TVUSD Governing Board Member for Trustee Area 4. I am excited to confirm that I will seek re-election and will officially launch my campaign after the summer break. Thank you TVEA for offering your endorsement once again! Congratulations Julie Farnbach on your Governing Board appointment last night! There were many highly qualified and impressive candidates and I am encouraged and inspired by the community interest and desire to participate in our school district. Although I would have liked circumstances in my situation to have allowed me to continue serving TVUSD, I look forward to supporting you and the school district this coming school year. Thank you one last time to everyone for your support throughout this process. I plan to run again in the fall of 2020 and resume what we started!

School Board Resignation Explanation I am writing this post to provide clarity as to why I have chosen to resign my position as TVUSD Governing Board Member for Trustee Area 4. Before I do that, I would like to formally thank and humbly apologize to my board colleagues, district staff, teachers, parents, students, and the Temecula community. My intent was to serve our school district and community with integrity, honesty, and transparency. ... Government Code 1090 is easier to understand when it relates to the promotion of a spouse of a board member. For example, a board member's spouse being promoted from teacher to principal would be a violation. The broader sense of the interpretation refers to the employed spouse maintaining status quo or being "frozen" in their position for the duration of the board member's time on the board. As it relates to me specifically, my wife reduced her contract from full-time to part-time after the birth of our 3rd child. With our son now reaching preschool age, it was time for her to return to full-time employment with the school district. I was unaware of this interpretation, as was the district, and we were shocked and stunned when we were informed of code 1090. To be clear, the district office has been supportive and worked with us throughout this process as we searched for alternative solutions. That said, the remaining options were: 1. I remain on the board, and my wife continues her part-time position until I am no longer on the board. 2. My wife looks for employment outside of the district. 3. I resign and, in so doing, legally clear the way for my wife to return to full-time employment. This decision has weighed heavily on us and was not something we took lightly. Ultimately, we determined resigning from the board was the best choice for our family. My wife is a beloved counselor in this district and works tirelessly to serve our students. She radiates love and kindness and talent. She is the perfect example of what makes our school district staff so incredible, and I support her 100%. I am fully aware that I have very little control in the public's perception of our situation, and I can only ask for patience and understanding. I am optimistic that this will settle in a positive light and come full circle when I run for the board again in the next election.
