The Port of Long Beach claims becoming a zero-emissions port is a top priority, and statistics appear to show a trend backing this claim. However, many residents don’t believe the Port is doing enough to reduce its impact on their communities. And new reporting from the Port shows a proposed delay in the transition to zero-emission trucks. Read more ... https://voicewaves.org//new-reporting-shows-possible-dela/ See more

We are so excited to be part of the People’s Budget Coalition! For far too long, Black and communities of color have been forgotten by the City of Long Beach. The city spends nearly half of their budget on police instead of investing in the communities that really need it! Join us this Saturday as we defend Black lives and fight to #defundlbpd #longbeach #lbirc #blmlbc #blacklivesmatter @ Long Beach, California

It started with retired Long Beach Police officer Laura Tartaglione saying I think California needs to start putting a team together of retired military, police, and NRA Members. These criminals that the Democrats created need to be stopped.

"In November it will be 10 years since I’ve been coming to these City Council meetings and talking specifically about police brutality, and the police relations...hip with the community especially the communities of color in Merced. Time and time again it fell on deaf ears. "In fact, there would be City Council members who would turn their backs on myself as well as community people that we brought up to share their experiences with police and the brutality that they faced, including a woman who was eight months pregnant. "Nine and a half years later, and we are still having the same issues. We have organizations in town reach out to you all, with very little progress. But as of late, we have had a lot of progress due to the young people in the community stepping up, shouting out that black lives matter, shouting things like defund the police which doesn’t mean there won’t be a police force but what they are asking for is a reallocation of dollars that are in line with the morals and values of the community. "That means more restoration, more transformation, and to start addressing community violence in a way that’s pre-incarceration. Not helping young people after they are shot. Not helping young people after incarceration, but something that’s investing and cultivating into the community. "We have seen many of you take a knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. But now we need your action. We need to see your action in matters of the budget, and how dollars are going to reach our young people and those who are the most vulnerable." - Jesse Ornelas, local activist and one of the many speakers of all ages and backgrounds who spoke to leaders at the Merced City Council meeting on Monday night.

yli's mission is to build communities where young people and their adult allies come together to promote social justice and racial equity. That is why we are s...tanding in solidarity with hundreds of thousands of protestors across the nation and movement leaders like The Movement for Black Lives to call on decision makers in city, state, and federal government to create true safety for our communities. This means divesting from excessive, brutal, and discriminatory policing and investing in a vision of community safety that works for everyone, not just an elite few. See more

Between the 2011-12 and 2014-15 school years, LBUSD spent over $35 million on policing students, a Children’s Defense Fund Public Counsel report found. During that time, the district spent just a fraction of that $117,112 to support its primary school climate program, which experts say has proven to support academic outcomes for all students. Meanwhile, the number of LBUSD counselors on staff decreased from 184 in 2008 to 107 counselors in 2014. Black and Latino stud...ents are disproportionately impacted by police involvement at school, though they greatly benefit from well-funded and tailored learning such as strong English Learner programs. Cambodian immigrant students, too, benefit from these resources. Here, Youth Reporter Briana Mendez-Padilla dives deeper on the importance of educational programs for high-need students. #Education #StudentsofColor
