Remember that in training you want to do the bare minimum of what you need to do to achieve your goal. Nothing More! This doesn't mean your training won't be hard, but you shouldn't look at your training as a block of hours. You need to look at your training as achieving what you need to do that week and when you can do it. The goal is to progress and be healthy for the starting line.
51 weeks to go until Ironman Cozumel! The first step in training is to define what your goal is for the race. When that goal is defined it will be time to see what endurance training, recovery mechanisms, nutrition requirements and strength training will be required to get you to that goal. Each pillar is just as important as the others and should not be neglected. Balance is key!
Interested in doing an Ironman? Follow Michael and Kyle as they return to Cozumel in 2015 for a a hot, humid and windy 140.6 miles. In the next 362 days Michael and Kyle will document what it takes to train physically and mentally to complete an ironman and answer any questions you may have.
Strength train to build lean body mass. Work the major muscle groups, including the quadriceps (thighs), hamstrings, glutes (rear end), back, chest, shoulders, arms and abdominals. Look into home gyms that work as many different muscle groups as possible. Home gyms are frequently less expensive than a gym membership and more convenient to use.
Belief is the number one criteria to being successful, if you have doubts then you are doomed from the start. Not that you won't achieve what you want but for you will have limited yourself by holding back.
