On this day 41 years ago, after years of searching for a permanent home, Visalia Players premiered the show "Same Time Next Year" in their new theater at the old Ice House in Visalia. The Ice House had become our place to call home, and we have continued entertaining audiences in the Central Valley ever since. Even though our theater is currently dark, we want to continue to entertain audiences. This Friday, October 30th, we will bring to you a new form of entertainment from the Ice House which we never would have imagined doing 41 years ago. Soon we are hoping to be open again and continue to delight audiences with our stage performances. This weeks TBT is a shout out to one of our board members, Keith Lindersmith. This show, Mornings at Seven, was not only directed by Keith, but he also was the set designer and lead the team that built the set for the show. His amazing eye for detail made this set one of our most beautiful sets used for a show!! Meet the Directors for our 2021 season. Today we want to introduce to you Brent Iden, who will be the Musical Director for Legally Blonde. We asked Brent some questions so you could get to know him. 1. Do you only Direct? No. I also do sound, help with sets, clean, and others things that help keep the workspace safe. 2. How many years have you been involved with the Ice House Theater? Five years...I think.... 3. Why did you become a director? Necessity. 4. What advice would you give to someone auditioning? Come in prepared. Be ready to go when we ask you to. Perform as though you are in front of a full house, we want to hear you as well as see you. This is a problem which I have witnessed many times, where a person will hold back during an audition or rehearsal. During your audition, you may be asked to do something a different way. This is in no way a criticism of your audition, but a way for us to see how well you accept direction, and what you can do with our suggestion. So do the best you can with what we are suggesting. Don't worry about being inexperienced. I can't say this enough! I have seen many people, and cast many people, with no experience in theater. They come in to an audition prepared, and just rock the house. I have been surprised many times by a person with very little, or no experience, come in a blow more experienced people out of the water. So if you have ever wanted to be part of a live show, but a lack of experience is keeping you from auditioning....GET IN HERE AND AUDITION! I would love to walk in, and see people I have never seen before, making up the bulk of the folks auditioning. Please don't come into an audition with any preconceived idea of what role you want. We may see something in your audition which you were never aware of. I love people who are happy playing any role, no matter how much stage time they have.
