This Father's Day weekend, get Dad something that he absolutely, positively did NOT get last year (besides this adorable cookie!): breakfast or lunch AT The Village Bakery and Cafe! We're here for the whole family (indoor and outdoor dining) from 8am until 4pm daily. We're all vaccinated, sanitized, gloved up and waiting for you! Weekend specials are Chilaquilles Rojos, BBQ! Tri Tip Sandwich, and our ever popular Village McMuffin (housemade English Muffin topped with over m...edium egg, spinach, sausage patty, cheddar & romesco sauce). We'll also have a case filled with grab & go goodies like BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Vegan Taco Salad, Gazpacho, Potato Salad, Caprese Pasta Salad & more! Hope to see you all this weekend! Yay!!!!!!

The Village Bakery and Cafe 10.07.2021

We are all vaccinated and we hope you all are, too! (It's free! It's easy! It protects you AND those you love!!) The exact rules of where and why and how and when we do things are a little sketchy right now and until there's clarification, we are asking that everyone entering the bakery and placing orders please continue to wear masks. We are all continuing to wear masks and are being super careful as always. We'll keep you updated on any changes here as soon as we figure things out! We DO have indoor and outdoor seating and (of course) take out! Please come in and join us!

The Village Bakery and Cafe 30.06.2021

Well, whaddaya know....we're hiring again! As the re-opening continues, so does our need for more employees. Right now we have several PART-TIME positions open (all of which require recent experience and weekend work, please): Bakers, line cooks, baristas and food runners. If you're interested, please send us an email with your resume: [email protected] If you know someone who may be interested, please pass this information along!

Hello, I'm Vaccinated! Are you?? We're a little confused about exactly what this week is going to bring... As always, we'll be playing things safe and we hope that you will, too. Please join us for inside and outdoor dining, but for now please continue to wear a mask when entering the bakery and placing your order. We're thrilled to see your faces again and are looking forward to whatever this "new normal" is going to be. One thing's for sure...after the year that we all ...just had, we feel confident that we'll be able to meet any challenge thrown our way! Sending you all loads of love! Barbara & the entire staff of The Village Bakery and Cafe.

The Village Bakery and Cafe 26.12.2020

Well! Here's a splendid turn of events...it turns out that someone with an actual plan is going to be in charge of things starting this Wednesday! Crazy, right?!? Until then, though, we all have to be extra, triple careful about keeping ourselves and all those around us as safe as possible. We here at The Village Bakery and Cafe feel incredibly grateful that (thus far) we've been able to stay open, stay healthy and continue to provide food for our neighborhood. A lot of... this is pure luck, but much of it is due to our obsession with wearing our masks, disinfecting surfaces an insane number of times throughout the day, wearing gloves and always, always, always practicing social distancing. With the news that one in every three people in Los Angeles are now infected with the virus, it's more important than ever to never let down our guard. I urge you all to do the same! If you do have to leave your homes to run to the store or your local favorite bakery, please try to keep your visits as short as possible. Have a list of the things you need, mask up, run in, maintain your distance from others, get what you need and head home. Oh! Also, remember that those who are serving you are putting everything on the line to make sure that you're getting the food that you need and that we're scared, too! Be Nice! That all said, I'll step off of my soapbox for a moment to tell you of our specials today... Our breakfast special is Rajas Breakfast Tacos! Three corn tortillas filled with scrambled eggs, roasted poblanos, onions & jack cheese topped with avocado, crema and cilantro. Served with potatoes and salsa roja ($14). Tonight's dinner special is Mustard Braised Boneless Short Ribs. These are fall-apart tender! They're packed in 18 oz containers (enough for 2-3...maybe even 4? servings) for $22. We made the most incredible maple glazed Brussels Sprouts & Sweet Potatoes today, too. A perfect side dish! Of course we have loads of additional items in our grab & go case as well as our entire breakfast & lunch menu. Give us a call: 323.662.8600 and we'll be happy to take your order and answer any questions for you. If you pay over the phone, we'll be thrilled to run your food out to your car when you pull up! Also don't forget to place your order for this coming Wednesday's Inauguration Celebration! I posted the menu yesterday but if you're having trouble accessing it call us! Remember that we'll have 46 cent cups o' Joe all day long on the 20th! (Drip coffee only, please! Also, NO...the special cup isn't included!!! Duh.)

Who needs a little comfort? How about free, chocolate comfort?!? I was planning on making a big, fat, chocolate-caramel cake for us all to dig into as a celebration this week. Obviously, celebrations are on hold for the time being, but the cake (and the counting!) must go on! Come in today and let us treat you to a slice of this edible comfort (while supplies last)!

The Village Bakery and Cafe 28.10.2020

How patient are you? For me, instant gratification takes waaay too long. I'm keeping busy baking, how are you all managing to get by? Tear yourself away from your tv and computer screens for a bit, put on your mask and take a walk. The fresh air will clear your head and (I promise) make you feel a bit better. If you live close enough, you might want to walk to the bakery and pick up food. We made loads of pot pies (both chicken and veggie) for you today and they might b...e just the thing to get you through today's news-cycle. Some brownies or cupcakes might help, too. You might also want to take a minute out of your day and order some family meals for the weekend. Here's what's on offer: Friday night is Fried Chicken night (after taking a week off from this last week, you might want to get back on board with this one). We'll be serving the fried chicken with house made BBQ baked beans, coleslaw, corn muffins and cookies. Saturday we'll have herb & white wine braised chicken legs & thighs. Served with garlic sauteed kale & white beans, organic greens salad, demi-baguette & cookies. Sunday Supper is beef bourguingnon served with mashed sweet potatoes, roasted cauliflower, organic greens salad, demi-baguette & cookies. If you're counting your blessings today you might want to give some thought to the blessings-counting day of the year that's coming up: Thanksgiving. It's three weeks from tomorrow! I'm posting a picture of our chalkboard that lists some info about the meal packages BUT...please check out the entire menu (and place your orders!) here: https://www.exploretock.com/thevillagebakeryandcafeholidays You'll note that the meal packages include options for dinner for two as well as a traditional dinner option for 4-6. Celebrations will be smaller this year, so we kept that in mind when putting together the menu (there will be PLENTY of food in all of our packages so that you'll have some coveted Thanksgiving leftovers!). All of our menu items from turkey and sides to bread and desserts, are available a la carte as well as in a dinner package. Early orders are VERY much appreciated! Not sure if I tell you all this enough or not, but we're very grateful for you all. You've helped us get through one of the hardest challenges of our lives. No matter what happens in the next few days (weeks/months/years) we will have each other. Let's all keep the faith and keep our chins up until every last vote is counted. Sending massive amounts of love out to everyone... xx Barbara & the staff of The Village Bakery and Cafe.

Good morning! How are you handling your stress? I'm handling mine by chipping two of my teeth, having perpetual heartburn, sleeping approximately 3 hours a night and weeping uncontrollably at the drop of a hat. Oh...and eating everything that comes within arms reach. If YOU'RE feeling a bit anxious and are looking for some comfort food to get you through the election results tonight, we have some great options in our "Grab & Go" case: Chicken or veggie pot pies, chicken... curry, mac & cheese, slow braised pork verde, eggplant parmesan, Impossible vegan shepherd's pies, roasted root veggies, sweet potato-black bean chili, tortilla soup & more! If you're anything like me, you'll need some sweets tonight, too--stop in and pick up some cookies, cupcakes or brownies (you'll be thankful to have those on hand later this evening!). Also: anyone coming in with a "I Voted" sticker on today gets a free little "I Voted" cookie! I hope you all voted and pray that the best man wins!

The Village Bakery and Cafe 17.10.2020

Although we don't have a liquor license, we can still help out with your beverage needs to get you through tomorrow night's election results! We have freshly made lemonade (traditional, blueberry lemonade and rosemary lemonade) in our grab and go case that are PERFECT in your favorite alcoholic beverages! As a bit of inspiration, our friend Quinn Cummings has provided us with some great recipes using our lemonade that will be perfect for tomorrow night's escapades! Grab a... recipe sheet the next time you come in! Also, be sure to check out Quinn's free mixology classes at: http://www.quinncummings.com/mix-signup

We're finally down to the wire...one more sleep until we get this madness over with. Have you voted already? If not, are you going to the polls tomorrow (with a mask on!!)? Do you know someone who is still undecided (not sure how that can be, but I'm told that those people exist!)? If so, give them a call today and have a chat about the importance of getting out there and casting a vote. Do you know someone who may have trouble getting to the polls tomorrow? If you can ...help, do so! Every. Single. Vote. Counts. Anyone coming in to the bakery tomorrow with an "I Voted" sticker on will get a free little "I Voted" cookie! We'll have our "Grab & Go" cases stocked with comfort foods to get you through the next few days---Pot pies, eggplant parmesan, chicken curry, pork verde, vegan shepherd's pies, vegan bolognese, mac & cheese, soups and more! You can order a full, traditional Thanksgiving meal or just opt for some sides, breads or desserts (including, of course PIE!!!!). The Village Bakery and Cafe 17.08.2020

Yay!! Halloween week is here! We are super excited and are working around the clock to fill our pastry case with all kinds of Halloween treats: Cookie plates, Boo-It-Yourself cookie kits, loads of ghoulish cookies, scary cherry hand pies, vegan chocolate casket cakes, coconut macaroon ghosts, peanut butter eyeballs and of course bloody baked donuts! Orders are welcome and encouraged! While we're on the subject of scary things, let me remind you that there's still a horrib...le virus out there. Despite what some people say, there ARE things we can do to keep ourselves and others safe. Wear your mask, keep your distance, wash your hands. I'd also like to remind you that we are not equipped at this time to offer outdoor seating. Our outdoor space is very small--with 6' distance we'd be able to provide 4 tables, maximum. We do not have the staff necessary to wait on outdoor customers or to clean up after them. While you may feel safe being waited on by a staff member who is wearing a face mask, my staff member may not feel safe waiting on you while you are not wearing a face mask. Please understand this and PLEASE be kind to the staff that I DO have when you come in. My staff has put up with an unbelievable amount of angry, defiant customers wanting to "school" us on how my business should be run. Be civil, be understanding, be aware that things aren't "back to normal" just because you want them to be. If you feel the need to unload on someone and yell about our policies, please ask to speak to me (Barbara)--I'll be more than happy to explain the reasoning behind the policy of my business. Trust me, we ALL want you to be able to come in and enjoy a meal outside AND inside our cafe. That time is not now, though. Trust scientists, real scientists. And by all means, VOTE next Tuesday (if not before).

The Village Bakery and Cafe 02.08.2020

Our Super Sunday Supper is Sausage Stuffed Acorn Squash (and, yes...I dare you to say that fast 3 times!). Served with cauliflower puree, haricot vert, demi-baguette & cookies. Call us to order! Now...let's talk about Halloween Weekend!! It's going to be a bit different this year for everyone, which is why we came up with some super special family meals for you! Friday night, October 30th we'll have Jack Skellington Pot Pies! I thought this up but wasn't sure if they'd tu...rn out as cute as they were in my head so I baked a "tester" last night (pictured). Success! Awesomely scary and delicious to boot! We're going to serve these with kale & bloody beet salad and a "bag of boos" cookies! Of course they'll come in chicken or veggie versions. Saturday night is Halloween night! We'll be cooking up Bloody Mary Braised Brisket and serving it with monster mashed potatoes, scary string beans and "Bats & Black Cats" cookies! Sunday, Nov. 1st we'll have a Dia De Los Muertos dinner. Low & slow pork salsa verde, frijoles charros, Spanish rice, corn tortillas & Dia de Los Muertos Skull Cookies. We're really, REALLY excited for the upcoming week and hope that you'll all place your orders in advance! You'll be able to order all of the above on TOCK (https://www.exploretock.com/thevillagebakeryandcafe) later this afternoon. Please pass along the information to anyone you think needs a little holiday spirit!
