This tax season, I've gotten 2 - 3 emails per day from a "client" with a name I don't recognize (and I know all my client's names, so that's pretty dumb) asking me to click the link and download their "tax documents." This is a phishing scam to get me to download malware or viruses so these jerks can steal all my client's personal information. 1. Hopefully your tax person is smart enough to know this is a scam 2. Hopefully your tax person has firewalls, virus protections, dig...ital data insurance, etc. 3. Hopefully every time you have to use that client portal that I or your tax professional set you up with, you are glad we care about your security instead of being annoyed that you have to remember another password. 4. Don't click links or attachments unless you are sure you know what they are. Double check email addresses and pay attention to the wording - if it just seems a little strange - it probably is.
